November 3, 2009 Rihanna: New Video + Interview + “So Hard” For 2nd Single
Rihanna dropped the highly anticipated video for her buzz single “Wait Your Turn” earlier today via her website. While I like the dark theme of the video, I’m not entirely sure what to think about it. It’s definitely going to give people something to talk about….that’s for sure. Earlier today, Ryan Seacrest confirmed the Young Jeezy assisted “So Hard” as being the official second single. He says:
Her second official single “So Hard” featuring rapper Young Jeezy, follows the album’s debut single “Russian Roulette,” a dark ballad which came as a surprise to many fans who expected a high-energy dance track.
In a recent interview, Rihanna finally opened up to Glamour magazine about everything from her new album and image, to domestic violence.
Domestic violence is a big secret. No kid goes around and lets people know their parents fight. Teenage girls can’t tell their parents that their boyfriend beat them up. You don’t dare let your neighbor know that you fight. It’s one of the things we [women] will hide, because it’s embarrassing. My story was broadcast all over the world for people to see, and they have followed every step of my recovery. The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn’t heard. Now I can help speak for those women.
You can check out excerpts from the interview after the jump, as well as the video for “Wait Your Turn”.
On Rated R:
I was involved in a lot of the writing. I put everything I’ve wanted to say for the past eight months into my music. The songs are really personal. It’s rock ‘n’ roll, but it’s really hip-hop: If Lil’ Wayne and Kings of Leon like my album, then I’ll feel good. I would not change anything about it. Even if people don’t love it, I made exactly the piece of art that I wanted to make. It’s super fearless—which is exactly how I feel right now. I am in a really good place.
I have grown up a lot since my last album. It [represents] exactly where I am at right now.

On her new image:
In the first two years of my career, there were a lot of restraints on what I could do. I couldn’t wear certain colors of lipstick, like bright pink, dark pink or red; [my lips] had to be natural. Eventually, I stopped communicating with certain people at the label, and did exactly what I wanted to do. And that was to cut my hair, dye it black, change my clothes, change my sound. Really to just express myself.

I’m intriguied by this new look…I really like ALL of the songs she released for this album, with “Hard” being the best one thus far.
Hope this new looks translates to sales though. Rated R seems hard to market to a young demographic….and during these hard times in music, every sale counts.
I’m buying it though!

THIS BISH RIGHT HERE IS GIVING ME LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love love love that she is taking all the dark, Illuminati crap and throwing it back in all the folks talking faces. The styling, imaging, look of this video was for one purpose and one purpose alone… it’s obvious she is playing off all of the crap said about her… honestly do you think she cares? she knows that talk and innuendo will simply garner more sales, spins, money for her so….
WERK MS. FENTY WERK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FYI…
Wait Is Ova is not an official release… it’s more promo/bonus/buzz single concerning her coming work…. it is being used to get and keep folks talking and it’s doing just that… this is why was released on rihannanow.com and no where else…it’s doing exactly what it is supposed to do and I love it!!!!

read the article as well and i think the best answer she gave was when she was explaining that she was a person with flaws, disappointments, highs, lows just like everyone else…. will be watching the 20/20 interview as well and i hope that when all is said and done focus can move from her personal life to her music life and remain there…

I love it! So simple and edgy. She was giving me an early-Aaliyah vibe for some reason. Work it on out!

I like what she had to say…. and the vid was okay, she’s beautiful, super-sexy… but I kinda wish the vid had a concept or a story! Other than that… it was ok. The jury is still out on the song however!

“Wait your Turn” is so inspiring!!!! Sometimes you gatta start from bottom to get to the top, and like she says sometimes you have to wait your turn success will come when it comes don’t force it. I love this song it is very inspiring. it does take a few tries sometimes before you get it just right. “Russian Roulette” was very different, but at the same time she sound AMAZIN on the song. I love the intensity of the song and the climax. Neyo did a good job writing that one, and I can’t wait to se the video when it premieres aswell.

This video has some seriously negative symbols tucked in there…
As someone whom is very spiritual, I won’t be watching that again.
Edge my ass.
Take over eh?
Regardless, I think her decision to end her relationship w/ Chris was a smart one for herself, her female fans and her career.
