October 5, 2009 Jam It? Or Slam It? Usher – Papers
Usher premiered his new single from his forthcoming album Raymond vs. Raymond (orginally titled ‘Monster’) called “Papers,” written by Sean Garrett. Naturally, he’s milking his divorce with Tameka Foster for everything it’s worth…but hey, I guess you gotta do what you gotta to do to sell records these days. Although, I am curious as to what all will be revealed in the months to come. As far as the track, I’m not sure if it’s a hit or not…it sounds more like an album filler to me. Raymond Vs. Raymond is due out in December.
What do you think? Do we jam It? Or slam it?

i’m gonna say that he sounds heartbroken. which happens to everyone….not a great song, i expect better from him. But, he’ll get a pass just this once….def an album filler though….

Hmmm. . . . I gotta put my Randy Jackson on and say “It’s just alright for me”
It really sounds like a b-side but I understand that he’s gotta milk that divorce for some hype and coins tho. At least I hear some of that real “Confessions” emotion that was lacking in Here I Stand. Welcome back Ush. Jump on it while CB is down for the count and Songz is puttin out predictable Bump-N-Grind tracks.

Nahh..I’m not feeling it. I understand what he’s talking about but the song sucks!
They could’ve done better getting his point across.

I am NOT feelin’ this track… it is to “blah”… I was hoping for more of a Marvin Gaye type thing – you know.. the album he did, “Here, My Dear” when he was getting divorced.. not this simple minded track with all of the “OooOOohs”.

I”m feelin it. The composition of the song is not that strong but yet it feels like a lighter version of what he was doing with confessions so I like it. I’m humming it now. I can’t sing it when i”m mad because I”m single but I like it.

Why shouldn’t he sing about his experience ? I think that’s okay and I am kinda feeling the lyrics but I don’t like the song (instrumentally). It’s too different and just lets me think oooOOOOhhhh ? Try again Sweetie ! Give us something with heart and your voice !!!

I kinda like it only because i am married and have been threw the rough patch where “signing papers” has an option so i understand the emotion of it….is it his best..HELL NO but not at all his worse… and i dont think its him milking his divorse artist sing and rap about whats going on in there lives….years ago jay z lost a child which he talked about in a song…several artist have told about the lost of a loved one, whether it be by death or just seperation and in this case divorse…so my heart goes out to him and the kids they have together…(although i know there marriage wouldnt last).

Hmm. I like it. It sounds classic Utsher, not to mention he’s being brutally honest. I can see this being an anthem for folks going through not wedded bliss.

For some reason, I have not liked Usher’s last two albums and I have been a fan of his since the onset of his musical career. This song, although it leans to be a bit autobiographical when I don’t care about his personal life, was quite refreshing. I really enjoyed it.

I like it, Granted not his best but lyrically I dig it.

Why is he playing the victim? We ALL have seen this go down in front of the public eye and as far as I can see, unless proven other wise, Usher is the one who f’ed that up. Mrs. Raymond was playing her position. Even damn near killed herself to live up to what her husband wanted from her. USHER you’re a chump for this one. Now if he would’ve come back like,’OKAY I GOT MARRIED AND I WAS STILL A WHORE’ I’d buy it, but Im not feeling the ‘woe is me’ approach to a marriage he f’ed up. Creeping around town with this one and that one, and then 2days after u hit it, u serv her papers…. thats not a man bruh, thats a coward…. FAIL….

its ok I don’t think all the added vocals is needed…it is very heartfelt and those that have had to sign papers and gone through it can totally relate.

I’m really feeling this song, seems like hes putting alot of feelings in this jam. We all make mistakes and hes giving how he feels in this great song. We are all human and make mistakes and this song is his way of showing that he made mistakes. This is one of those songs that will stick with us all, wether we like it or not. B Baby its definately a Jam it!!!

Well, I have to say Usher is one of the few male artists that I actually like. Usually anything he puts into a song I’m with. I don’t have any association to the whole “papers” thing because more than likely I’ll never have that issue..hehe However, with that being said I’m feeling this because it can be applied to giving your all in any relationship, it doesn’t have to be a marriage per say. With that being said, Usher is giving his all on this record as usual. His voice just captures me as well as the whole production of his work. I don’t think it would fit as a lead single but definently as a filler on the album..it’s a great song!

Jam it!!! This is Ushers style he makes great break up songs (i.e. burn, confessions) and they always sell….So i believe even though it isn’t his best it will do well!!

I have since become a fan of Usher. I listened to his newest album and I really enjoyed his vocal abilities, but this…Awesome. I love it. I love the lyrics (although I don’t really understand the Mama bit), the beat and the range of his voice. I don’t know what his wife is putting him through right, but it sure makes for good music. Is it me, or has Usher become the new R Kelly, minus the peeing?
