September 12, 2009 Jam It? Or Slam It? Toni Braxton – Yesterday
Toni Braxton’s seriously delayed album, Pulse, is now scheduled for a February 2010 release. “Yesterday” is slated to be the lead single from the project, despite previous reports. I’m not sure if I like the song just yet. It reminds me of the majority of Beyoncé’s I Am… album. I was hoping for Toni to come back with some fresh R&B similar to what she did back in the 90s. I guess she’s going for more of a mainstream sound.
Love muffins, do we jam it? Or slam it?

Wow, ur right B. It sounds a LOT like Bey’s stuff…sounds like a cross between “Halo” and “Broken Hearted Girl” lol. It’s an okay song though, so I’d Jam it, but again, it sounds like stuff we’ve heard before.

SLAM IT! ..its a good song, but just like you said B, it sounds too much like what we’re already hearing nowadays. Its very Pop -sounding.. like from a TV series. Her vocals are good and all.. and she looks amazing, but the material is not something I find myself enjoying. If I heard this on the radio, I’d change the station. I really wish she would come back with a whole new sound, with more grit, more bass, more funk, better producers.. etc.

I’m glad to see Toni Back. She does sound a lot like Beyonce, but it’s a sweet song. I say jam it!
She not only sounds like Beyonce, but is styled a lot like her in the pic too. I wish Toni and other R&B divas would just be original. Beyonce set the bar high when she went solo. After her, other solo chicks started doing squats in the gym and performing in stilettos. Beyonce is HAWT, but originality is hotter.

I actually I love it, it does have a similar sound to other songs i have heard, however, I still think it has some sense of originality to it. Great vocals. I say Jam it.

Yes..it sounds a bit like other stuff thats out there but she does it in the Toni way that we all love her for! I say give it a couple more listens and you’ll find that you enjoy Ms Toni’s sound. She looks FAB!

I love me some ToNi and I have to say she can sing probably anything and her voice just draws you in with it’s uniqueness and sexiNess. I actually would JAM this. It’s not eXactly R&B but I love it. I actually loved Beyonce’s album..it was something new and she pulled it off beautifully. She put something out different and I personally enjoyed it..although I prefer her doing more R&B/soul type songs. As for Toni, these tracks that have been leaking out have been showing her very vocally capable which has been absent from her previous Libra and More than a Woman…she was too soft for me, but this album looks to be very good..im ready!!

I like it. It is NOW. I don’t get the review expecting for her to give FRESH r&b but “similar to what she did in the 90’s” . That was almost 20 years ago…. we HAVE to start letting these artists from the past come into the PRESENT and work toward the FUTURE. It sounds like classic Toni. The NOW classic.

Toni is still hot! This particular song does sound a lot like Beyonce’s cut, however, there is only one Toni. My guess is that the rest of the cd will set apart from her competition. Jam it, I think it’s ridiculous that people keep comparing Toni Braxton to Beyonce. Vocally Toni is leagues ahead of Beyonce and most other female artists out now. People also need to realize producers artist work with have a specific sound from R. kelly,the dream, bryan michael cox,Timberland ,etc. So if artists are working with the same producers obviously the production will be similar. Also people who are expecting Toni to sing songs like another sad love song or unbreak my heart years after the release date that is also insane. She is an artist she has to grow with the times if she wants to sell records and this is the type of music that is selling now. I think Toni is fabulous and this song is absolutely amazing.

She ruled the R & B in the 90’s… She used to have a distinct singing style

This is beautiful and mature. Toni is singing like Toni. How do you give something “fresh” and make it similar to what she did back in 1993? That’ll be 17 years ago by the time the album is released. Whether this song sounds similar to another artist sound doesn’t mean that Toni’s song is not good. Song is beautiful.

I’m going to say, “Slam it”. There are like three songs out there that have that same sound. whoever is writing these songs (and I believe it’s the same person) is makin’ a killin’ selling these tracks! Speaking of tracks.. I’m tired of Toni and this “flowing hair”. She needs to get back to that cropped hairstyle and rock it.! The hair was cool on Secrets – but it’s time for another change.

First of all i am tired of everyone comparing Toni to Beyonce when they have no comparison at all. Vocally i agree with stoyann that Toni can sing circles around B but i like both artists and dont care to diss on them. But if you listen to them both they dont sound a like. Vocally no one will ever sound like Toni and she has moved with the times and has put a good song out there. Toni has been here way before all theses other starts that think they can sing and she is still here today and obviously anit going anywhere. Toni dont need to follow B cuz Toni is a mega-star on her own. So people stop hating when someonoe finally who can actully sing and is talented puts something out there. I love B, but Toni can blow her out of the water with this album from the song i heard. all she need is so promotion. Take a closer look i know we all grown up to the old school r&b toni used to kill it on but this is amazning vocally and its something that can bring her back to mainstream. Dont hate on Toni she is one of the few voices if not the last left from the 90’s divas. whitney voice is shot, never be what it was which is sad cuz i was rooting for her and Mariah thinks that talkin fast is singing anymore. lets support some true talent and JAM THE SHIT OUTTA THIS!!!!!!

I really like the song. No it’s not a power house, but the lyrics are good and the beat is nice. You have to admit, that it’s better than some of the mess she’s been putting out these past couple of years.
