August 25, 2009 New Music: Lloyd – Pusha
After departing from his longtime label home, The Inc., Lloyd is currently working on a new album. His new single “Pusha” is a smooth R&B track produced by The Runners. The “love is a drug” reference is getting a bit stale, but other than that I really like this song. I’m not sure what it is, but after the first few listens I instantly became hooked. His last album, Lessons in Love, debuted at number 7 on the Billboard 200 chart, but since then has failed to perform and has yet to even be certified gold. Hopefully he sees more success with this record because Lloyd actually makes really solid R&B music. If you wanna keep up with Lloyd and get the inside scoop on his new album, you can follow him on Twitter!

Seeing as though the song is called “Pusha” a la Curtis Mayfield’s “Pusher Man” a drug dealer I can see quite clearly his need to use the lyric “love is a drug.”

I wanted to hate this song for it’s dabblings with coke and the likes, but it’s truly hot…that’s mostly due to the fact that (and I don’t care WHO disagrees) Lloyd’s voice comes damn close at times to emulating that hair raising tenor cry of the now late great MJ…
I’m interested in seeing where he takes this album…and of course whether or not he takes off his shirt on its cover…

This was nice. it would done just fine without the girl rambling in the beginning. I understand, though, that you need a female somewhere in the song or video to make it sexy. (long sigh) It’s getting kind of redundant.
