August 5, 2009 Paula Abdul Leaves American Idol!
It saddens me to say that Paula Abdul will not be returning to American Idol this fall after she was unable to re-negotiate her contract with FOX. This comes after wide speculation that she would indeed not be returning to the show for the ninth season and would be replaced by judge Kara Dioguardi. Paula released the following statement via her Twitter:
“With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to #IDOL. I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all …being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 become an international phenomenon … What I want to say most, is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me … It truly has been breathtaking, especially over the past month … I do without any doubt have the BEST fans in the entire world and I love you all.”
I honestly can’t believe they let her go. Do you think Idol will be the same without her?

It’s too bad they would negotiate on her terms. I gues she hasn’t made the impact that she thought she has.
I don’t watch the show but I can’t imagine this new judge is as kooky as Paula.

I agree with Pryncedru. I rarely watched and probably wont support the show at all now. I’m not feeling her replacement.

I think the show might actually be better without her. She didn’t really offer any constructive feedback, she just told people they were great even when they were awful. Occasionally she would say something critical but it was very rare. I’m not saying this in a sense that I wanted her to be mean to them like Simon was, but for example Randy and Kara would try to help the contestants out whereas Paula would give them the wrong idea, it seemed. I’m aware this is entirely personal opinion, so I’m not saying this is “right”, but it’s just how I see it.

It’s SEXISM to the 10th degree. How can you pay a host Ryan Seacrest 45 million for the next 3 years? & not have one of the more popular judges make the same or even more. Simon & Paula’s chemisty is what makes the show also popular. Foolish move on AI part…I know for a fact Paula wasn’t asking for Simon’s paycheck…but, dang…they couldn’t even hang w/ Ryan Seacrest. I’m a male & i say equal pay!!

I actualyl think she brought a lot of comic relief and a kind of “Fresh/positive” energy to the show. I don’t think it will be the same at all…

Oh, No! I certainly will NOT be watching if Paula is not there. I have not been a consistent viewer, but when I did watch, Paula was and always will be my favorite judge. There is just a special chemistry between her, Simon, and Randy sans Kara.

Ugh. I think Paula is crazy but that’s what made American Idol American Idol. I haven’t watched the show since they added that random 4th girl who I don’t know the name of and now I have know plans of watching the show now.

It will not be the same without Paula. Paula brings a quality to the show that in indeering. I truly feel she is a genuine person and will have much success in whatever she does after IDOL>

Evidently she wasn’t worth (monetarily) what she was asking for. & Ryan Seacrest and Simon Idol are. Randy is humble and mustn’t let money define him? And that’s why he’ ok with his money.
Money is money. But beside that it’s good to leave on her own terms. And she has potential to be immediately successful at anything she does next.

I’ve watched Americal Idol since the very beginning like many others and the show will not be the same if there is no Paul….point blank!
There are MANY of us that still watch the show and love it and love Paula with all her quirkiness.
