Whitney looks great. All the photoshop critics need to fall back. Name me a diva, any diva, who doesn’t have photoshopped pictures. It’s the nature of the industry. Whitney is a natural beauty, sure she has aged, but she has excellent bone structure. She was a professional model before she was a professional singer. Fan or not, Whitney looks good. Period.

I love me some Mariah and Whitney and I agree they are on two different levels. You are right her music has always kept up with the times. BUT, the autotuning of her voice to me is the part where she sells out. It’s so unnecessary because her fans know she is so much better than that. Obsessed is ok as a first single but it’s not one of her best or top 20!
Someone saying she is selling out doesn’t make that person ignorant it’s merely their opinion. There is no need to go on the attack. This is a venue to put our opinions out there. Personally, Mariah & Whitney are two of my favorite female singers. But, they have both had their ups and downs for sure. Can’t we just agree to disagree & be happy that these ladies are still a force to be reckoned with!

Congrats to Whitney Houston for getting sober and getting her life back on track to create an album that her fans can enjoy. It’s been long overdue.
For the sake of argument from the beginning of Mariah’s career fans have always put her against Whitney and for all good reason of course; they both could/can sing their asses off (it’s debatable now from both singers current state of vocals compared to their earlier vocals). Let’s remember that the music industry is that an ‘industry’ so they have to make money for the companies they work for. Before it use to be just about the singing, power ballads and sheer vocal talent. We got Whitney, Mariah, Celine Dion, Toni Braxton, etc. Mariah did write her own songs which made her stand apart from the rest. However, in today’s music industry it’s more than singing which is sad in my opinion. It’s really about marketing, appearance, being multi-talented (singing, dancing, acting); basically being marketable and commercial. Which is why we now have this abundance of untalented artists out there who look good but couldn’t stand up to Mariah or Whitney in their prime.
Which brings me back to Mariah. Mariah is a business woman; believe it or not she always has (thanks to Tommy Mottola; her ex-husband and the former President of Sony Records! Doesn’t that sound logical?) therefore she is going to do whatever it takes to stay on top of the charts, stay relevant, and make the company (Universal Records) money and yes that includes audio tune from which Jamie Foxx used on his record breaking hit ‘Blame It’ and also dress in a way that will appeal to men and be idolized by women who love and want to be her. It sells people. Mariah sells she doesn’t sell out LOL! I’m sure there’s method to Mariah’s madness and a good method I must say myself. You have to follow trends or break trends in the music industry by creating something very unique to be successful and time and time again Mariah has done that except for her slip up on the movie Glitter which wasn’t really that bad in my opinion. I do think timing had to do with that movie and albums failure. So, for all those who are comparing Whitney Houston to Mariah Carey fall back. Music is subjective.

Whitney is older now. A mature woman trying not only to get the young market, but her longtime fans as well as some older. This cover gives me pure class. I’m sure after all Whitney’s been through they wanted her to have a stoic look on the cover and that’s smart.
As far as comparing Whitney and Mariah there’s no need. They’re completely different in the way they approach music so why compare? Like my father used to say don’t compare yourself to someone else to make your light appear less dim. Appreciate artist for their art and not make things so personal. It gets ugly.

I am calling your post out in particular because I feel like a portion of it was directed at me. because you note “for all fans that compare Whitney and Mariah to fall back”. Where or where do I start?
1. The funniest comment you made was that Glitter was not that bad! Come on even real deal Mariah fans know that was a BAD movie…shit even Mariah knows that was a bad move on her part. I don’t care if it was released around 9/11 or not. NOW, the soundtrack that wasn’t bad at all. Not her best but not bad.
On the movie front I am looking forward to seeing her in the movie Push that will be released this year. I think that Mariah will have pushed herself in this role and she just may surprise some people.
2. I understand Mariah is a business woman and she needs to stay relevant but you know what at some point you have to mature. It’s interesting that you say she appeals to men because most of the guys I know find her kind of skanky and that is using a nice word. Is that the image you want to put out there? I guess if it sells recodrs right? Mariah’s fans are mostly women and gay men. Every concert I have been to can attest to that for sure! I actually love the audiences at the concerts because those are the real deal fans!
3. I stand by my comment that the auto tune in her songs is unnecessary and to me is equated with selling out. I don’t care if Jamie Foxx did it. His voice quality is nowhere near the same level as Mariah’s.
My intentions in my first post was to pint out that opinions are just that. You can like them, hate them whatever. I just think you don’t need to attack others just to get your point across. Like I said I support both these ladies regardless! There will be no falling back this round! Ding Ding!

Obsessed is an ok track I don’t know about HOOOTTTT. But to each is own. Again I stress Mariah doesn’t need it because she has skills far beyond that.
ANYWAY the point is to let people have their own opinions without feeling the need to attack! Some people liked Glitter (crickets chirping) Ok maybe one person liked Glitter and others HATED it. But it’s all subjective. So many worse things going on in the world I don’t think pitting two divas against one another is even worrth it

P.S. @ minamony Glitter the sound track was gold I’m sorry platinum literally (it sold millions and for any other artist back then and even today we would consider that a milestone). The movie I liked; didn’t love and yes Mariah herself admitted it was a bad idea. However I still believe it was a good effort given the circumstances. Again, Fall back! That is my subjective opinions. Let’s all fall back with the comparions of these two idols this is suppose to be a Whit Whit post not a comparison of Mariah againt Whit. I personally love them both. I just dont understand why the Lambs can’t simply be happy for Whitney? Like c’mon now this is the MOTHER of modern R&B, WHO open the door for artist like Mariah to come along behind her. EVEN MARIAH RESPECTS AND ADORES WHITNEY. But the same love isnt give here from her fans.

AUTOTUNE – I known about this WAAAAAAAY Before T-Pain or Akon ever came along. I have my own issues with so called ’singers’ relying on this product soley for their talent. Rappers I dont have too much gripe with because we know they cant sing so its fun to have them do it. Roger Troutman and Teddy Riley did it for years and had some of their best hits with it so Im not totally against it. What bothers me about it with ’singers’ that use it is that you cannnot reproduce the same sound live, they cant even give me half of what they give me in the studio live i.e. CIARA, OMARION, ASHLEY TISDALE etc. MY DEFINITION of a singer is some one who can stand at a mic without shaking and jiving and give a steller performance.
As for my disappointment in Mariah. Yes this woman set the standard of the beauty, songstress, songwriter(Beyonce, Alicia K., Christina) but as of late that legend that we all knew she would become is raising some questions of about the state of her voice and her choice of material. I hate to say it but it is because shes a woman. Jamie Fox is a older gentleman but his a man so a song like BLAME IT is kind of right up his alley but Mariah (yes the double standard) is a little too old for that. Im not saying that she shouldnt stay current in the music industry or even pursue the kind of music she wants to record now but what happen to the class, the finess, the soul, the elegance that used to be in her music – THATS what I miss from Mariah. It lacks substance and if over saturated with FLUFF. I still love her, but Im going to have to hear more of Memoirs before I buy it, same as with E=MC2 I didnt like TMB and once I heard the rest of the album I was even more disappointed. THATS JUST my opinion so slam me if you will. AND to the one who herolds her for writing her material, you cant possibly believe the same woman that wrote ‘VISION OF LOVE’ is writing this crap. Im sure by now she has that clause in her contract that says if I sing it my name goes on it. I want Mimi to go away and Mariah to come back… havent seen her in about 10 years now… LOVE

Whitney, I have been WAITING for this for sooo long and NOW its finally here. She looks stunning and mature yet still youthful enough. Just sheer class. I think she is going to blow a lot of people’s mind from what I am hearing about her album preview. She really has come full circle and we are all proud of her being such a survivor and so strong.

There is no picture in print or for sale that has not been photoshopped!
Especially if its a picture of a woman.
Half of you duh-dunt duh-dunts would need a plastic surgeon to look halfway decent – Photoshop is for people that already look decent!
In Whitney’s case she went from Beautiful to Flawless.
Also, What you THINK beauty is – is a result of retouching and makeup.

Yes Mary you are right, singers sing however people are comparing Mariah and Whitney and in my opinion Mariah is in a league of her own and at the top of her league of female vocalist because she writes and produces her songs.
