July 2, 2009 New Music Review!
Ryan Leslie – You’re Not My Girl: Ryan Leslie doesn’t sleep. Even though he released his debut album this past February, this is the lead single off of his upcoming album, Transition, which is due out this fall. This song is HOT! It reminds me a bit of Omarion’s “Entourage”…only better. Ryan Leslie is a musical genius and this is a must-have for the iPod.

D. Woods – Great Adventures: Looking to step out of Danity Kane’s shadow, D. Woods has already released a mixtape and is planning on releasing an album sometime in the near future. I’m not sure where this song came from, but it doesn’t really matter. The song has potential, but something about her voice is throwing me off. It’s worth a listen, however I doubt it’ll make it into my rotation.

Nicole Scherzinger – Whatever Happens: This newly leaked track may be a left-over from her failed solo attempt, Her Name is Nicole. While Nicole still claims that her solo album will see a release date, she isn’t sure when and says she’s still working on it. Her solo material is hit-or-miss with me. Either I like it a lot, or I don’t like it at all. I like this though. It’s a bit more urban than the stuff she releases with the Dolls’ and if in fact her album sees the light of day, I’ll be interested to hear what it sounds like.

Mario – More Than Friends: This is a pretty mellow song from Mario. There isn’t an official track-listing for his new album, And Then There Was Me… so I can’t say if this is to be included or not. More than likely it isn’t. It’s an okay song, but I’ve definitely heard much better coming from him. His single, “Break Up” ft. Gucci Mane is getting a lot of radio play these days…which I honestly didn’t think would catch on.

I’m not gonna lie…. i LOVE d woods….but this is CRAP. seriously, and her actual talent is far greater than this. seriously. I think maybe she just go back to doing Musical theatre. Hit up broadway and national tours. I mean don’t let that good NYU Tisch Musical Theatre training go to waste to some weak demos.
Nicole is ROCKING on this jam. For real…. i’m gonna down load this when i can!

I was sleeping on Mario for a MINUTE and now I am not! “Go” is a CD I can listen to front to back. This song is definitely not CD material!

Feeling the Ryan Leslie and Mario song. D woods… no soul in her voice.. she can have a seat, and Nicole Scherzinger.. it was ok

I hate the PussyCat Dolls, but Nicole S. as a solo artist isn’t bad @ all… I have several songs from the Her Name is Nicole album and they are honestly not bad @ all. I think her rec co. should have released this album.
AND D. Woods lost me with this song.

i like the mario song a lot ~ which i didn’t expect to. even when listening, i had my cursor poised over the pause button, but i couldn’t stop listening. it IS pared down, but so much more adult… he caught a little maxwell flavor in his phrasing, etc. i like it! i sort of like the ryan leslie one, too, but we’ll see.
also, the only part about you getting a tv deal that makes me sad is that you don’t post links for singles anymore.
that could also be a response to the rapidshare thing, but both happened about the same time, so idk.

I’m really digging Ryan Leslie’s Your not my girl.
B. Scott have you listened to chrisette michele’s Epiphany or Utada’s This Is The One?

I like Ryan Leslie overall and this is a good track and definitely yes B–it sounds like Omarion’s Entourage in parts. Couldn’t listen to Nicole or D.Woods although I like D. Woods in general–this particular song of hers is not hot–the melody sounds off key or at least the tonality of the melody is meant to sound off-putting and strange….still it doesn’t add up. Love anything mario does. And by the way…michael Jackson has a song called “Whatever Happens” from the Invincible album and Nicole says the same words (”‘whatever happens don’t let go of my hand” ) deliberately or unintentionally who knows…

So the only song I’m feeling is this “Mario” I love love love this song….very moody and sexy…I can get my grown woman on with this joint.
As for the other 3 can I say Hate Hate Hated it….seriously they need to go back to the drawing board and do themselves a favor and never ever release these songs…..D Woods I must say I was expecting much more from her I couldn’t even get through the entire song…..sighhh

Well, allow me to be a bit catty just a minute, i have to get it out of my system. D. Woods not only needs to have a seat, but I would be more than willing to buy up an auditorium filled to the BRIM with seats, if she’s having problems finding one to sit in. that first track i heard from her, was it called “my side”? was okay, blended very well to a certain extent.
This one is CRRRRRRRRAP!
The Ryan Leslie songs appeals to my old school late seventies early eighties funk craze. Reminds me of the time i had to tell Jeronda Anderson in the fourth grade that no, she wasnt, or was ever going to be, my girl.
Nicole who? i don’t see her link…no, i swear i don’t see it *evil grin*
Mario’s music sounds the same, and although i actually like his music, mistakingly playing a different song of his while believing it was the one i wanted because of aforementioned sameness is not on and most certainly not poppin.

you and everyone should really listen to it because he can sing 100 times better than some people already out there… smh its a shame how real talent is overlooked for this garbage out today

The Ryan leslie track was cool but the fact that it sounded like O’s “Entourage” through me off because I absolutely hated that song! But his vocals were on point!
The Nicole Sherzinger track was ok, but her voice is nothing special! I can’t see her making it w/o PCD, at least not with this material
As for D woods, the track has potential but her vocals ruin it for me………it sounds to bubble gum and watered down! I think she would have done the song justice with out the auto-tune and just sung in her full voice with a more heavy beat over the track could possibly work…..I feel she’s trying to hard to be crossover and pop!
I really really liked the Mario track! I though it was sensual and smooth! Some good rnb, but nothing I’ve heard from him so far has topped his “Go” album….that was a solid album that got slept on hard…..

I really liked the track “Whatever happens” by Nicole S. It had a funky edge to it and her vocals were a little rough. It all flowed together nicely. Good job. Now if we could just do something about that solo album of yours…
