June 15, 2009 Box Office: ‘The Hangover’ Hangs Onto #1

Hangover

The hilariously funny, what-happens-in-Vegas-themed comedy The Hangover stayed put in the No. 1 slot at domestic theatres, pulling in an estimated $33.4 million. Disney/Pixar’s Up remained in the second slot, earning $30.5 million, bringing its cume to $187 million. Denzel Washington and John Travolta-starring The Taking of Pelham 123 opened in the No. 3 spot with $25 million, Night at the Museum was fourth with $9 million and $143 million in total. Rounding out the top five was Will Farrell-driven Last of the Lost with $9 million.

Eddie Murphy’s latest effort, Imagine That, opened with a wimpy $6 million, good for sixth place.

Any love muffins catch The Hangover yet? It’s too funny.
