June 5, 2009 New Music: Mary J. Blige – Nothing On Me
Oh my! A new song from Mary J. Blige just surfaced and from what I can tell she’s using the dreaded auto-tune. I’m not sure how I feel about this…and it’s a radio-rip, so I can’t give my complete judgement on the track. It sounds catchy and when her vocals are on, they’re amazing as usual. But something about Mary on the auto-tune just doesn’t sit right in my spirit!

Update: I’m adding the HQ version of the song, but my initial opinion still stands. The song does indeed go hard, but Mary should leave the auto-tune to the amateurs.

i hate to say this, but all the nonsense she was going through at the time helped her to be a better artist who connected w/ her music… the last album (and the new one, too, seems like) are just produced-to-death. not loving it.

bullshit, leave that to the kids like cassie or something. Mjb needs to keep it real like for example alicia keys has done over the years, she brings real R&B. This is just not mary, this is some producers work and she got to sing the lyrics.

i hate to say it cuz i wish the best 4 Mary and nobody should have to go thru what she went thru but honestly she sounded better when she was going thru drama and tryna get over her stress. now that she’s all happy and in love her voice doesn’t have that same grit and anguish frankly. oh well…

I do believe that this is one of the songs that will be featured on Tyler perry’s , “I Can Do Bad All By Myself” sdtk.
The movie will feature Mary J Blige, Brian White, and alot of other people.

I wish this wasn’t true, but I liked Mary as an artist best when she was in pain. I am so glad to “hear” that her life is good because no one should be in pain.
However, I believe this song came about because of the movie and because she gave up two songs one to Rhianna-Umbrella and one another artist that ended up being major bangers for them at the time she states it wasn’t “adult” enough for her and that her true fans would know she wasn’t being true to her sound.

I THINK THE SONG is GREAT but if the whole album uses that thing for the first time i wont purchase a Mary album because she has to much raw talent to alter her voice i love the mary that we had on whats the 411 and my life, and Growing pains and all of the others Please Mary let this be the only time you use that thing

Mary is doing what every other talented artist does showing versatility. The song is definitely a BANGER!!! Its different and that whats keeps Mary Hot. Shes an artist thats has proven she’s here to stay, and this song just reinterates her star power. She’s got SWAGG. From Whats The 411 to My Life, to Mary… to Share My World and everthing after and in between she has always had SWAGG and yes those songs were great b/c the explored the truths and the hurts and the stand point of where she’s coming from..now its time for us to hear Mary can have some fun and keep up with the genre that we are living in now.This song is nothing to sleep on. Mary your hot girl!! Keep it up from a tru Mary supporter and one of many fans your music has inspired, keep up the good work!

First: I love Mary. Much respect.
Second: I love the beat of this song; it will be a club favorite.
Third (the most painful): This isn’t the Mary I fell in love with back in the “411″ days.
Mary hasn’t been “personal” wth her music for a LOOOONG time. I think No More Drama was the last painful flower in her vase. Raw emotion, connection with the listener. People say that she must grow with her music. But as a club diva? OK . . .
And there is a fine line between VERSATILITY and FOLLOWING THE PACK. What deinition is Mary under?

Love the song. The real Mary J. fans know that Mary keeps it real. I am sure when she did this song, she had her fans in mind. We must remember that Mary J has fans of all ages, young and old, so for her to do a song using auto-tune shouldn’t be a suprise to her real fans. To be honest I really didn’t pay any attention to the auto tune because I was so caught up in the beat.
I can’t wait to hear the whole album. I know she has something on there for all her fans, so lets not judge her on just one song. Luv u Mary.

I love MJB no matter what she bring out new or an old remix she hot. She been through a lot and it only made her stronger. Without MJB i wouldn’t been able to deal with relaionships that went bad for me in the past. she should me how to put myself first and that u can’t love someone unless you love yourself
