May 26, 2009 Proposition 8 Upheld & NOH8 Campaign PSA

California Supreme Court’s ruled this morning to uphold Proposition 8. Unfair. Not right. Dead wrong.
The LGBT residents of California deserve the same rights, privileges and protections that heterosexual couples have when they marry civilly. We want equal rights!
Note: Check out the NOH8 Campaign PSA below which features yours truly and many others that have joined the fight for equal rights for everyone in the state of California.

As a member of the LGBT community I was in utter shock and dismay when I learned of their decision. Do they not know the power we hold as a people??
I hope my state of Texas does not ban same-sex marriage, it would be devastating! We are not a minority; we are not any less of man than God himself has created. Why are we denied such laws created by a biased and insensitive government?? Those laws were made hundreds of years ago; they are amended frequently and are not written in stone. This government’s laws and decrees were based on the “status quo” of mutts long ago.
We deserve the same rights as every other individual. We are the people and we should be treated as such!!!

Great PSA! It really is too bad that people are so close-minded. Love is love. It shouldn’t have anything to do with government.

Im doing a report on gay marriages in my world history class. Im straight but im all for gay marriages! I feel we are all human and bleed the same blood, WHo is the government to tell you that you cant marry the person you love? Love has no race or gender.

Disappointing, but, not the end of the world. 18,000 legalized Gay marriages in this country is no small feat. Now is not the time to feel defeated. We have a long way to go, but, we’ve come so far:
1) There are more conversations about the topic now than ever before. People are TALKING!!! Wake up America, that is progress.
2) Although acceptance is not 100% yet, we hold a strong position of power and influence that I believe will help turn things in our favor in the coming years. Even to the point where MORE heterosexuals will be rallying beside us. Risking their lives and reputations for the greater good. Before, finding one or two people who understood was an accomplishmet, MILLIONS have joined the crusade. Millions of people ACCEPT me as is. That is no small feat.
3) 18,000 and counting legal gay marriages in the United States in 2009. That’s 18,000 more than 5 years ago. No small feat.
4) Celebrities are getting back to being about more than gossip, fashion, scandal and press. They are using their influence to influence. Standing up for whats our. That is no small feat.
5) To come this far from NOTHING is amazing to me. More people being more open means less suicides, outkasts and repressed angry gay & Lesbian kids & adults. Less DL brothers and sisters. Freeing their minds is more important to me than marriage. What being oppressed has done to some people psychologically is going to take time to undo even if mariage is legal. We’ll get there. Trust me.
6) What a fucking awesome thing to be able to say in my lifetime that I helped put a qualified Black man in the white house and supported the rights for gays to be legally wed. The setback aint nothing but an opportunity for a comeback.
We have same sex parents raising children. We have opposite sex parents raising gay children and are raising them to BE who they are. Imagine how empowered they must feel to “come out” and not receive backlash. This new generation will be the one who will free generations before it. Let the Elders hold on to their old ideas. Marriage will be legal. Don’t use this as a chance to show your A$$…show your CLASS!
If you ask someone for something and they say “NO”, dont get mad….you simply asked the wrong person.

Great video. I completely agree. Give equal rights to everyone, treat everyone as the tax-paying citizens they are. Not sub-class and without human rights to shake a stick at. California: Where everyone is equal, but not.

b scott you looked great in that video!! I think that everybody should have the choice to arry the person that they love. It doesn’t matter f it male and male or female and famale. If they love each other that is all that matters, and no one in the world should take that from anybody.

As a str8 married person these people need to ask themselves why they care if 2 adults want to get married, even my 8 yr old who saw it on tv did not understand why people would care.

I have a question. Why do protestors against Proposition 8 attack the supporters? Just because someone disagrees with you, it does not mean they hate you. Turning against someone for their belief is just wrong, to me. Support for Prop 8 should not be characterized as hate. There are many motivations. Name calling only widens the gap instead of fostering dialogue and understanding.
