May 5, 2009 William Morris Agency and Endeavor To Merge
Hollywood heavyweights William Morris Agency (WMA) and Endeavor, after months of speculation and negotiations, have agreed to merge to form William Morris Endeavor Entertainment.
WME Entertainment – the new agency’s likely moniker – will rank in size with Creative Artists Agency (CAA), which for years as been the leader in show business representation. The new entity will house more than 300 agents representing clients in film, television, music, literary, commercials and corporate branding.
The first challenge for the new, consolidated agency will be to handle the layoff of hundreds of agents and support staff, restructuring management, and to deal with the attention of competitors eager to pick off prime agents and clients.
James A. Wiatt, who was chief executive of Morris, is to be chairman of the new company. Ariel Z. Emanuel, the dominant partner at Endeavor will have substantial authority in the new company. He was named a co-chief executive, along with Patrick Whitesell, from Endeavor, and David Wirtschafter, from William Morris.
WMA was founded in 1898 and rep clients such as Star Trek producer J.J. Abrams, toymaker Hasbro, Kanye West and Lady Gaga. Endeavor, only 14 years old, reps Tyra Banks, Adam Sandler and Ben Stiller, among others.

there is something sorta creepy about everyone sorta being owned by the same people. its like the music industry, how there be “competition” if the competition works for the same boss.
