May 2, 2009 Swine Flu Cases Soar Worldwide + Vaccine?

Love muffins, as I said before, I hope you all are thoroughly washing your hands after coming in and keeping that little bottle of hand sanitizer in your purse/manbags! I just wanted to update you on the latest health epidemic du jour, the swine flu.
The World Health Organization, or WHO, has upped the number of confirmed cases of swine flu to 615. This is a jump of 65 percent, and includes info gathered from 15 afflicted countries. The Organization reported 397 cases on Friday – the jump is due to the recent testing of backlogged specimens in Mexico. Mexico has the highest number of swine flu cases with 397 infected and 16 deaths; next up is the U.S. with 141 cases and one death. A 23-month old child brought to Texas from Mexico for treatment this week died shortly after this week.
Read more after the jump.
WHO wants to make known that we’re seeing an increase in the number of reported cases because some cases went untested for some time. Essentially the rise does not necessarily mean an increase in infection, “[the] reporting backlog is bearing fruit and [the world is just now] seeing the results of that.”
The spread of the swine flu has also made its way to China and South Korea, as there have been some reported cases there with links to Mexico.
A vaccine is reportedly in the pipeline for H1N1, said to be completed in a month. However, once a strain has been identified, it usually takes four to six month for a vaccine to be produced. A vaccine requires that the strain of the virus is isolated, which has already been done.

Most of the cases in the US are mild, not even requiring treatment from a doctor. The baby that passed in Texas didn’t get it from the US, but Mexico, where they say the strain is tougher to combat- and lets not forget, babies are very vulnerable when they get sick, as are senior citizens. Don’t panic, and don’t stop your life, just stay sanitary- wash your hands, especially after sneezing, coughing and handling money…which is what folks should be doing in the first place!
If you were to get this (and you’re healthy, without a compromised immune system), it would not mean you’re going to die, it just wouldn’t. You’ll be uncomfortable for a few days to a week, then you’ll be back to normal.

Isn’t this odd.. The swine flu suddenly appears and its only been out a week or so, and everyone is in a panicking wearing mask and ish. HIV has been around for years and people still won’t put on a condom. Makes ya want to holla.

Now I do think people wish they could eliminate a whole culture or group with a diseases but science isn’t so precise as this. Thank goodness.
