Love muffins, yes, you all are all aware of the latest story to take over your local and every media outlet: the swine flu. Well, here’s a little blurb about where it’s believed the knock-out strain of influenza came from, and some scary statistics. Make sure my love muffins always wash their hands after coming in!

Mexican officials estimate that the swine flu outbreak has caused more than 159 deaths and roughly 2,500 illnesses. The flu caused authorities ordered about 35,000 public venues to close or serve only take-out meals. Authorities also ordered the closing of certain bars, clubs, theatres, pool halls, gyms, sports centers and convention halls until May 6th.

Contrastingly, World Healthy Organization confirms that 150 cases have been reported worldwide, including 64 cases in the United States, 26 in Mexico, six in Canada, three in New Zealand and two each in the United Kingdom, Spain and Israel. WHO has only confirmed deaths in Mexico, where it has caused seven deaths there.

President Obama said the outbreak is cause for concern, not alarm.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has ordered the increase of the most common flu-battering drugs, Tamiflu and Relenza.
