April 28, 2009 Keira Knightley’s PSA Banned!

Love muffins, Keira Knightley’s domestic violence PSA will not be airing on British television anymore because it has been banned due to how violent the content is. Take me higher Lord! The purpose of this PSA is to bring light to the fact that women (and men) are being physically and mentally abused. This is reality, and for it to be banned…if anything it should be shown at night since it is not suitable for children.

Yes, that was a bit much, especially for children who may see it and not realize that it is a PSA. However, it saddens me that on TV people can curse, show T&A, appear to be having sex, and show graphic violence, but something like this, made to awaken peoples consciousness, is banned!

people don’t want to see this on TV because people are STILL in denial about violence against women.
people find this commercial shocking because we don’t discuss the issue that women DIE from domestic abuse.

I think it isnt too much for t.v. There are children who grow up thinking this is normal, and too many of those children learn the faultiness of it too late in life, if ever. Too many little girls i have seen grow up getting things twisted because no one showed them another way. Now will this psa help people to be aware of it more? People already are, they just choose to turn a blind eye.

okay domestic violence month was in February where ws all this awareness then and for the past 3 yrs. Didn’t nobody wanna take it serious until the Chris Brown/Rihanna conflict….where was this when Iverson beat his wife where there was proof and everything…..where was this when Christain Bale (the new batman) beat on his loved ones…..The sad thing is that even though this sends a powerful message, the problem is the picking and choosing of when to get on the bandwagon. Don’t do it when it benefits you in the public eye but do it everyday and stop waiting for something big to happen for you to want to stand up and take stand

That was powerful, poignant and to the point. There’s nothing in terms of violence here that you won’t see on Buffy the Vampire Slayer or even Lost. It didn’t need to be pulled.

it’s not too much at all, it’s real and if the kiddies see it, sit down and have that talk with them. Parents shud be monitoring what their kids watch anyway. YAY KEIRA!!! good 4 her 4 making a stand

WOW! That is a lot! I can see why they banned it. However, that is a very effective commercial for people to see how serious Domestic Violence is. It gave me goosebumps.

As a seventeen year old this is wayyyy too violent for tv even in America! I would not want this shown on any tv screen. What if children saw it? We shouldn’t use scare tactics to gain awareness.

The fact that it’s “too much” is the POINT, people. Women are being beaten to death by their partners, and we’re hear arguing that the PSA is too graphic. You can’t close your eyes and make it go away. Raising awareness is the only way we can get close to reducing these deaths.
And frankly, you see people getting shot/beaten/raped/mutilated on TV every single day. An ad showing the reality of abuse and showing how it needs to be STOPPED isn’t going to cause problems. Ignoring the problem will. Keeping kids from seeing graphic content is the responsibility of the parents, if you don’t want them exposed, turn off the TV.
