April 6, 2009 Summer 2009 Movie Preview

Love muffins, despite the downtrodden tone of the country in the midst of the current economic crisis we’re in, Americans this summer will have plenty of options at their local movie houses to choose from to take themselves out of their fiscal foolery – at least for a couple of hours.
Here is a breakdown of the films you can expect to see this summer. It’s really a mixed bag, and I’m sure you’ll find a couple that you’ll be willing to throw down that $12.75 for…or in some cases $14 for (anyone familiar with the Arclight theatre in Hollywood??).
1. May 1 / X-Men Origins: Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman and the precursor to the whole X-Men franchise.
2. May 8 / Star Trek, the high-anticipated J.J. Abrams (Cloverfield) 11th film in the series
3. Ghosts of Girlfriend’s Past starring Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner will try and capture the romatic comedy audience
4. Battle For Terra, 3-D animated action flick
5. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, starring Ben Stiller in version three of the franchise
6. Terminator Salvation, the first Terminator movie to not star Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
7. May 22 / Dance Flick, starring the Wayans Brothers
8. May 29 / Up, Disney/Pixar’s digital contribution for the warm months
9. June 5 / Land of the Lost, starring Will Ferrell in what promises to be a goofy, action-packed time
10. June 12 / The Taking of Pelham 123, starring Denzel Washington
11. June 19 / Year One, an effects-driven Jack Black actioneer
12. June 24 / Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the anticipated sequel to 2007’s $708 million worldwide monster
13. July 10 / Bruno, from the man who brought you Borat, Sasha Baron Cohen
14. July 17 / Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the last in the series opened with $77 million
15. August 7 / G.I. Joe
16. July 4th weekend / Public Enemies, starring Christian Bale and Johnny Depp
17. July 4th weekend / Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Fox’s animated sequel
18. Mid-August / Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep about the life of legendary chef, Julia Childs
19. August 21 / Inglourious Basterds, Brad Pitt-starring, Quentine Tarantino-directed World War II piece

Well, love muffins, it looks like it’s going to be a busy summer. Which movies are YOU excited about? Let’s discuss.

I wanna see X-Men:Wolverine and i hope Storm gets her own movie too and also the younger X-men, lyk “X-Men: Next Generation” or something.
Also Ghost’s of GF’s past (gorgeous Matthew), UP! cuz i saw a sneak preview and saw about an hour of it. And Julie and Julia cuz i love Miss Meryl Streep. And maybe that Brad Pitt one. He’s still hot 2 me, even more so as a daddy.

I’m not super excited about any of them, but I definitely want to check out Dance Flick, Bruno, and Julie & Julia (it’s Meryl Streep afterall). Everything else I’ll see if I’m bored or maybe wait til it comes out on DVD.
