April 6, 2009 Chris Brown Pleads Not Guilty

chris_brown_not_guilty_courthouse_040609_1

Chris “Beat You Down To The Ground” Brown has pled not guilty to both felony charges: assault and making criminal threats. The disgraced R&B singer appeared today at the L.A. County criminal courthouse to face charges stemming from the alleged vicious beating he inflicted upon Rihanna.

TMZ sources inside the courtroom say Chris’ mom spent the entire preliminary hearing either in tears or praying for her 19-year-old son. We’re told a handful of Chris’ friends and four bodyguards were also there to show support.

Brown is due back in court on April 29.

Update: Donald Etra (Rihanna’s attorney) who spoke on her behalf today stated, “she would be pleased if [the case] were over quickly,” as in plea bargain. Etra went on to say when asked what kind of deal would she want, “My client recognizes it is not up to her what kind of deal. It is up to the D.A. to decide. She would prefer that this be resolved expeditiously and fairly… so she can get back to her life, which is exactly what she wants to do.”

  • I enjoy coming to this site for entertainment news and your opinions and i know i have the right to stop coming if i choose to do that. but you putting the comment on chris name is so lame. If you condemn one person condemn them all. Youre not perfect and neither am I and we’ve all done things in this world that other people have judged us on. Just think of all the things you’ve done thus far. Its sad that some people with blogs and television shows are capitalizing on chris and rihanna situation. and capitalize dont always equate to money either. where was all the outrage about DV, before chris and rihanna? DV have been occuring since the beginning of time and now some people and their mama want to capitalize on.

  • now see that nigga put the beat down on her and she forgave him! she is so dumb! he needs to be locked away for good. WOMANBEATER!!

  • I know people are going to get mad at B Scott for calling Chris Brown a woman-beater, or for calling him Chris ‘Beat You Down’ Brown, but B Scott is not being biased…he’s stating the facts according to the police report!

No one is perfect. Hell I’m not. But I don’t go around hitting a woman (a girlfriend, at that!) and I’m not in court for those charges, either. Yes, Chris Brown hit a woman, therefore he’s a woman beater, I don’t see how hard that is to understand.

  • Can't believe This

    April 6, 2009 at 9:48 pm

Who the hell cares about These people my goodness, we have earthquakes going on , Huge chunks of ice breaking off making the water rise in the ocean people killing people left and right and this all that we can talk about are we really that hypnotized to get worried about people we don’t even know? How many women are being abused right now and I don’t see them on TV. We better wake up and stop worshiping these people like they are gods when they bleed just like us. Things are going on all around us and chanching and know one seems to care about the real issues that are important. What is going on in the world???!!! Wake up Stop watching these damn reality shows celebraty shows they are dumbing all of us down! wake up!

  • This is a response to Myopinion I think you know BScott is a comedian and putting the comment next to Chris Brown is mild compared to what we all know he did for sure. I don’t I have to worry about pop culture response to this event and/or pop culture response to Domestic Violence before this incident because my feelings about a subject does not change when a celebrity becomes the focus. I think that most people who was against DV before are just as against it now. No matter if the late night comedians or the media outlets have a field day with this… a punch, a kick, a slap still happened. The shaming of Chris Brown, the jokes ,the shame and the brusing of Rhianna does not go away. I need BScott to make me laugh and give us his opinion because I want to hear it.

  • I totally agree with MY Opinion…I love this site also…but why would you put that comment next to Chris Brown name…that was totally uncalled for…everyone has an opinion and are free to express themselves…BUT B Scott remember Rhianna chooses her destiny…If she “chooses” to take him back or even be involved in his life that’s her choice…What we people fail to realize is that this is a 19 year old boy…don’t let one mistake hinder him for the rest of his life…yes he has to pay for what he did…but remember only God can jusge him…who are you who is an openly gay male to judge him…no one judges you…!!!!

  • um… “MyOpinion” its not that serious!!! i found that name to be hilarious!! This is just who B scott is.. Don’t get your panties in a bunch!

  • Wake up My People

    April 6, 2009 at 10:03 pm

Who cares! Wake up People Stop Watching Television and worrying about these celebs ! There’s women being abused as we speak and we don’t even know who they are but because these are celebs it’s a big issue. Why aren’t people discussing real issues that are happening and effecting all of us! I’m soo tired of all this nonsense that I don’t watch the television, I don’t let my kids watch that crap we are being bombarded with senseless tasteless reality shows. The world is changing people right before our eyes you guys better wake up and see the world for what it really is. These celebs are people just like us they just have money. People need to wake up take care of themselves and children. No offense to B Scott but I am soo tired of it and there are a group of us who really are fed up with the senseless crap that is being fed to us daily. Earthquakes, Shootings, weird noises in the sky Hello! Are we that dumbed down to stay focused on people we don’t even know and who could give a crap about us?We better start learning how to grow food and help each other out when times get really really bad.

  • MyOpinion, please go somewhere with that.

Chris Brown IS a woman beater. Did you see Rihanna’s picture? The POLICE and witness say it was Chris Brown – the only suspect in this altercation. Eff what other DV is going on, that I clearly don’t know about yet know is going on. If I knew about those, I would feel the same way.

    LOCK ALL THOSE BASTARDS UP!

    Goodnight

  • I can’t believe it. He needs to go to jail

  • i agree with My Opinion because i know that B.Scott probably said that as a joke but this whole case is just crazy because this is a young couple that got into a fight that shouldnt happened because no one should put their hands on no one and everyone want to blow it up i dont think i seen a post on this site about Don Cornelius(if there is one correct me) getting off with probation and community service why that didnt get as much media as Chris is it doesnt make any sense what about the women from the tv show real housewives of new york getting arrested for punching her boyfriend no of this is getting press and where is oprah when her friend BeBe Winans got arrested for pushing his wife i just dont understand why there is some much press about chris when police are being killed people shooting up places for no reason and relatives killing relatves i understand that they are gonna make an example out of chris which is wrong but that is what the media do and domestic violence happening for a long time and it pains me that it take this situation between a young couple for someone (the media) to say something about

  • B.Scott can say whatever he wants this is HIS website so it’s going to show his opinions on it common sense and if you don’t like it C.Y.A you trollop.

  • Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future.

  • Well, i feel like yes indeed he is a woman beater and if he don’t find it in his heart to change, then he will always be one. They are celebs, so it is made a big deal, but we’ll know who has the real problems when she goes home with him and he explodes on her again. It is not a joke, she needs help.

    Full Co-Sign D Lanie

“MyOpinion” is being way too serious and way too pro Chris Brown. It’s sad that Chris Brown, a young brother, is the media’s current poster child for DV but that doesn’t mean he is without reproach.

And yes, we have all made mistakes, but we have not all exposed ourselves to public scrutiny or held ourselves up as role models or champions of a particular topic like CB did on DV before his altercation with Rihanna. If you were really real aboout it you would say shame on Chris Brown for not speaking out against his actions, which were a SERIES of REPEATED mistakes (he didnt just slap her, which is BAD ENOUGH, he terrorized her and attacked her multiple times). He is in full-self-preservation mode. If he had done what was right, maybe B. would be wrong for poking fun at him, but even then it would be a MAYBE.

  • I agree with “Wake up my people.” Okay, so we all agreed that this was a terrible situation that escalated out of hand, but there are much more pressing things going on in the world today. Domestic violence is wrong, no matter what side its comming from, but are we just going to keep feeding into negativity every time the media shouts out a headline? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but we cannot change the past, the best we can do is hope for the future and move on.

  • This is so sad…I hope he can rehab himself and not end up hopeless. He made a huge huge mistake and at such a young age and with his status he will have to become a priest or something to get over this…sweetheart God is calling….join the church chior now.

  • cont.:
CBYDTTGB probably pled not guilty today because he really sees it as a fight with another person not a woman or his woman, and he somehow believes that she started it and caused him to beat the ella outa her (no joke). His pleading Not Guilty is him justifying his actions but if you look at the pictures…(none of him) he received no bruises or scars. He should have walked away from this fight and he should under the law go to jail…period…. for the maximum amount of time alotted someone who has never been in trouble before and then he needs to redeem himself in a major way because right now he’s toast….and we all know what happens to toast. I am proud of Rihanna for moving on as best she can…this is a real life drama that people can and should learn from.

Who cares about the name…. what I wanna know is WHY is he pleading NOT GUILTY when his ass CLEARLY DID IT!!!!!!

  • I am pro chris brown because he is a young brother
I am also pro chris brown because rihanna don’t care as much as idont care.
She partying going all over the country traveling
    Getting her papparazi fix
I am also pro chris brown because I don’t know him
He basically kicked rihannas ass but ok pretty damn Shute he learned his lesson

And B that little name thing you put on the end was kind of childish like perez Hilton

    He beat her up yes
Move the he’ll on like rihanna
We got enough probe in the black comunity
    Than to worry about
A man who beat A woman
And a black girl that don’t know how to fight

  • he plead not guilty because he probably has a better chance at getting the plea deal he wants NOT because he doesn’t admit and accept the fact that what he did was wrong in court it’s not about the truth… it’s about what you can prove to be the truth
I have so many words to the people that are wrapped up into this ” throw him away and lock the key” ” he needs to be sent to hell” this boy and i mean BOY because shit he’s younger than ME needs help he has problems that need to be solved you don’t just go and beat up someone out of nowhere obviously there were signs that this could happen whether the people around him chose to see it or not he has an unhealthy outlet for his anger and agression and it needs to be fixed… what is sending him to jail going to do? what satisfaction are YOU getting out of it to see a 19 year old boy put behind bars for a mistake? this is a problem that doesn’t go away by putting him in a cell

  • no where in my statement did i say chris brown is innocent how dare you say something negative about him. NOPE DIDNT SAY THAT.
whoever didnt understand what i wrote just ask me and i’ll explain it she/he.
i said if bscott condemn one condemn all, which means every man and women who have did something unjust needs to be called out on it, from A to Z. and not just in the public eye. as im typing somebody is going through a DV dispute now.

Its sad thats 2009 and some people still dont get it. There are so many issues that plague the black community but yet instill when celebrities get into a DV dispute, thats when some people want to so call speak about the person. Where are the bebe winans, don cornelius, and larry fitzgerald stories at? exactly just what i thought, capitalize on chris brown and rihanna.

  • why does this still seem to get the most comments ?!
leave it alone !! i agree w| the ppl who stated,
that there is so much more going on in the world today .
besides this case. come on, i can see if the “brother”,
(that’s so tacky by the way ew) .
pleaded guilty and took responsilty for his own actions .
but he has of yet to this day. please .
move on from this already !

I”ve seen blogs where people want him to commit suicide or be locked away indefinitey. Little do they realize, they’re the ones with bigget issues. Ignorance is bliss.

  • This is in response to cyniraholtbkabarbaraholt I need to hear what BScott has to say because he is my Favorite comedian. I don’t want to ‘Get with Him” and I don’t think his fan based is made up of straight women waiting for him to “Change”. I am happily married and I find him humorus, smart and funny, and overall happy person like myself. If he was at the Improv I would go and see him..If he was hosting a party at the FountainBleu..I would attend. Not everyone is sexually obessed.. maybe you are. So perhaps you should find a mirror look deep at the image reflecting and say ..in your saddest voice..” I will never be the enviable..B Scott..- no matter how I try or stalk his website-trying desperately to copy his swagger” CLING ON

  • *smh* Poor little lamb(s)…

  • I’m sorry to bring race into it but I have to point out the mentality and resentment in the black community; that black women deserve it and need to be treated this way, if a black woman is attacked she must have provoked him and needs to be tamed and handled to be submissive. If she doesn’t well…”thats why they don’t mess with black women”.

There is a hypocrisy here, I don’t hear black women saying ALL black men are women beaters. I only hear some people saying that Chris Brown is a woman beater, which is true. He beat her, he didn’t snap and shake her or slap her once he BEAT her it was a full assault that has allegedly been going on for sometime.

I’m dissapointed to hear some educated ‘pro black’ conscious types condone it by suggesting that victims bring it on themselves by being forward or ‘mouthy’.
These qualities are present in a minority of ALL races of women.
When Christian Bale allegedly attacked his mother & sister no one’s first thought was that they deserved it.

When cases of white domestic violence occurs the majority of white people take it seriously they don’t clown the victim and make club songs about it. Whereas it divides the black community and women that think he is wrong are labelled ‘bitter’,'angry’ or accused of reverse sexism; and men who believe Chris was wrong are labelled as ‘weak’ and ‘brainwashed’.

19 is old enough to know right from wrong, he even sadly has the advantage of knowing first hand that Domestic Violence is wrong from growing up in a household where his mother was abused. I’m not saying that he should be perfect, but common sense would dictate that you should at least appear remorseful and make the necessary moves to get his reputation and carreer going again. IMO Chris Brown & Rihanna are like “Dumb & Dumberer”. Also ike most young people (and celebrities)he thinks think that they are invincible and untouchable and can do what they want.

I’m also not saying they should lock him up for the rest of his life, I think he has issues if he believes what he did was okay and needs counselling. But 30 days is nothing, and he probably will be out sooner.
At least then he can say ‘I did my time and took my punishment lets put it behind us’.
If people like Paris Hilton can be thrown in jail over a DUI – why not him? Age is not the issue.

  • I’m on ya side Chris. some femeles will push you to beating their ass, and i am a female. i’ve never been beat up, but i also don’t hit, argue, or get in a man’s face. Women want to be equal about everything else, but play the victim role real quick. it sicken’s me…

  • IGottaBigBrain

You ALL have a Bright and Exciting day … Aiight!

  • Chris Brown should burn in hell for pleading not guilty.

Instead of walking away HE BEAT HER UP.

He is young and he has time to change but a NOT GUILTY plea is not the road to change. Its the road to DENIAL.

  • Well i think he was wrong for pleading not guilty because he ALREADY ISSUED A PUBLIC APOLOGY FOR HIS ACTIONS WHICH MEANS.. he DID do it..

From what i understand, he would get off easier if he admits to what he did, as opposed to them finding out later that he IS indeed guilty.

Do i think he should be thrown under the jail? No! I understand that we make mistakes, and he DOES need some help for that. At the same time, if Rihanna takes him back then i think the issue should be dropped.

  • I feel that we all need to be very careful in what we say about this situation because it is extremely personal, and sensitive and in reality none of our business. I don’t necessarily understand what Chris hopes to achieve with a not guilty plea especially considering that he couldn’t get a plea bargain. As a feminist and lover and supporter of women, as a human being what Chris Brown did was wrong and there’s no getting around that he shouldn’t have let his temper and his childhood issues get the best of him in this manner. As a black man my heart goes out to Chris Brown and I know that as a brother I must come to my fallen brother’s aid lift him up, support him, challenge him, and help him get the counseling he needs in the spirit of transformative love. As a black man I also know that most of what is going on in the media regarding this situation is not about domestic violence, caring about Rihanna, or truly desiring to hold Chris accountable but that it is indeed about a racist media feasting upon a young black man who up until this point has kept his nose clean just like blood-thirsty vampires would feast on a virgin. CHRIS BROWN IS NOT OJ SIMPSON! As a grassroots activist who does anti-prison work I do not think prison is the answer for Chris Brown as I believe it would make him a more damaged person than he already is. As a Christian I pray for Chris Brown and hold him up in transformative love because Jesus died and shed his blood for Chris’s brokeness just like he died and shed his blood for mine. Chris’s demon may not be my demon, but I have one therefore I cannot judge him. While it does not excuse, condone, or justify what he did we need to know that Chris Brown acted out his childhood on Rihanna’s face and that needs to be taken into account while we hold him accountable. I still think Chris Brown is an amazing entertainer, and one of the most astounding dancers of our time and I look forward to new music from him and Rihanna in the near future and am still a fan of both. People are being very inconsistent, contradictory, and hypocritical in that they won’t listen to and they ban Chris Brown but they still listen to R. Kelly, still listen to and regard Miles Davis as a legend, and they blackball Chris Brown but still listen to and play hip-hop music and videos that promote disrespect and violence toward women. Well thats my $2.50

  • ALL OF YOU PEOPLE NEED TO PRACTICE SOME COMMON SENSE! it disgusts me how quick you are to judge! rhianna isknown in the industry for herextreme insecurity and violent temper. every now and then you get a twink of a report of her spazzin or them having a quarrel, but since she ahuge money maker you most won’t touch her… the police report says that she was behaving wildly and said male was calm and crying. ahem! take ur short-sighted asses to tmz or necole bitchie and read the truth! also a rabbi called the police afraid of what SAID FEMALE woulddo! not to mention i saw with my own eyes her punching chris in a club and he did nothing! everybody was trying to get her to calm down!

it’s never ok to hita woman OR A MAN! somebody needs to start educating these ghetto ass, violent ass island women on how to handle their feelings in a mature non-violent way! punching him for being a man isn’t the answer because one day said nigga might just punch you back! as humans our knee-jerk reaction is to defend ourselves when being attacked. the fact that HE[CHRIS] had bite marks shows that he was being attacked as well. the cabin of that car is tiny. i got out of a lambo for a pr stunt for an alcohol company and could barely do so so if they were arguin/she was hitting him with the phone just trying to maneiver in that space is difficult as HELL and would cause a bruise or two..

in this instance THEY ARE BOTH WRONG! and crazass ass rhi rhi shouldn’t be free to party it up while he suffers. i’m so disgusted by the unfail 1 sided nature of everyone’s commentary! we need to teach our sistas and brothas proper ways to manage theiranger. lil girls are seeing RHIANNA’S actions as ok because nothing happened to her.

“hell yea i’a muff my man or throw something at him if he make me mad! the police ain’ gone do shit! rhianna was acting crazy on supasweet 16 so i know she prolly started it and now she finally got his ass. i ain’ mad @ her. fugg chris, she shouldna tried to cheat on her!” <— is what 1 of the mentees i tutor said re: this chris b/rhi rhi situation

  • First of all NOT GUILTY? What the fuck is that? WE ALL KNOW HE BEAT HER, THERE ARE PICTURES! What kind of man would plead not guilty so some he KNOWS he did? I don’t give a shit if Rhianna cussed out his mamma and pissed in his coffee, HE BEAT HER, that’s that, there’s no denying it.
    @tahani
Yeah Rhianna might have hit him, but that still doesn’t excuse what Chris did because at the end of the day you don’t see pictures of Chris with a bloody nose and head contusions. People have a right to be angry at Chris, as a man he should have known that he would hurt her more than she would ever be able to hurt him. If she was hitting him then all it would have taken was for him to get out of the car and leave, Rhianna didn’t force him to hit her no matter what she was doing. Yes they were both wrong but chris CHOSE to beat her down and he should pay for that.

Like B. said in his video about it, under NO circumstances is it ok for a man to beat a woman down like that.

  • Little Ms Piggy

    April 7, 2009 at 3:17 pm

there is no excuse for a man to hit a woman, no matter what happen. chris needs to pay for what he did, so everyone can see that this is something you do not get away with.

  • did Larry Johnson pay for it? did BeBe Winans pay for it, did Rocko pay for it? all these men know better just like chris, and more so they are all adults. Chris is a boy a 19yr old boy! there are women geting beat up by men everyday, but people don’t care about them. it is wrong for a men to put his hands on a women and vice versa.it just seems like he is getting so much flack for this more than ony of the mentioned men above. i was not there that night, according to the media, Rhianna is not even the one who called the cops, when he got out of the car to look for the cell phone he threw of hers, she could have dialed 911 then. everyone is saying it is wrong this wrong that, well according to the bible, so is being homosexual, having children out of wedlock, fornication, adultery, living togather without being maried etc, but people continue to commit these sins everyday, and i don’t see any of these people being tormented on a daily basis.Rhianna knows she has everyones sympathy whether she was wrong or right, she is a pretty female so she has public sympathy. well what about all of these other normal everyday women, how come thier story is not plastered all over the internet and people coming tho thier defense? how come BeBe Winans ex-wife is not plastered all over the internet, and why is noone dogging him out like chris brown? frankly i am sooo tired of this whole story, I do hope that both of them pray on this situation and that god will get them both through this.

  • Blah blah blah….B Scott. We know you hate Chris, we know you think he should go to jail. Most ppl agree with you. Others don’t….

Can we please move on? I am so sick of hearing about this and hearing you and others go on and on stating THE SAME DANG THING over and over again!

    MOVE THE HECK ON!!

No more beat em down brown, We get it! He hit her! He’s an Idiot! And She’s crazy for taking him back!

Please move on! I would like the happy and entertaining B scott back. Not the “I am starting a rebellion against chris brown and his music and I can’t put 5 new posts on my site before I mention Rhi Rhi and how sad I am that she’s sick or Chris Beat em down brown and how I hate him.”

Move forward. If you are that worried about Domestic Violence, let’s see you do more than just talk about chris and rhi rhi. Go volunteer in a shelter or put up a post with information for women who might be in a situation where they WANT to get out but can’t.

Stop all this talk, talk is cheap.

  • Chris Brown is a scape goat.Rihanna looks like she doesn’t care about what happened. I’m waiting to see what happens when the trial starts.

  • good point moving on, lets see who else do something.
