March 30, 2009 Boxoffice Win: ‘Monsters Vs. Aliens’

Dreamworks Animation 3-D adventure, Monsters Vs. Aliens landed in the number one spot over the weekend with $58.2 million. The film played on 7,000 screens in the U.S. and Canada, with approximately 2,000 of those screens being 3-D. Reese Witherspoon is the voice behind Susan/Ginormica, a girl-turned-monster in the film.
Supernatural thriller The Haunting in Connecticut scared up $23 million in business in second, and Nicholas Cage’s The Knowing came in third with $14.7 million in its second week of release. Comedy I Love You, Man dipped 26% in its second week to bag $12.6 million, with Julia Roberts-driven Duplicity ranking fifth with $7.6 million in its second go-around.
Final box office figures are released tomorrow.
