January 24, 2009 Vogue’s Anna Wintour on First Lady Michelle Obama’s Fashion!

Read what Vogue’s Anna Wintour has to say about First Lady Michelle Obama’s inspiring inauguration style including the Jason Wu crystal encrusted chiffon one-shouldered gown that she wore to the inaugural balls and the Isabel Toledo gold lace shift with matching dress that she wore during the actual inauguration.
Change was the clarion call of Barack Obama’s election campaign, though I don’t think any of us at Vogue initially realized that would include the difference that was going to be made by First Lady Michelle Obama’s wardrobe. We’ve been incredibly impressed by what she has worn, pulling off that tricky balance between the stylistically interesting and the absolutely appropriate. And no more so than during Tuesday’s inauguration, where she watched her husband sworn in wearing Isabel Toledo, and spent the night going from ball to ball in Jason Wu. (I’d also like to single out for praise that wonderful Narciso Rodriguez camel coat.)

Read the rest of what Anna Wintour had to say about our new First Lady’s fashion after the jump –
It wasn’t just that her choices projected a simpler, streamlined, more modern attitude, rejecting the ridiculous idea that the only way for a First Lady to dress is in the dreaded White House standard-issue uniform—the boxy, anonymous suit that always managed to look as appealing, and as comfortable, as armor. Instead, we have a woman who is as happy in newer, less obvious designer choices like Wu and Toledo (both, incidentally, Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund finalists, which made my heart swell that little bit more with pride) as she is in J.Crew and the Gap. It’s inspiring to see our First Lady so serene and secure in her personal style.

Michelle Obama has brought back a sense of style to the White House. The American Fashion industry hasn’t had a catch this big since Jackie Kennedy in 1961.

Now I have to agree with “d.” I admire Michelle, and adore that white gown she wore, but people are putting too much into that Day ensmeble. It was a risk, that I’m surprised she took, but glad she did. However, the color didn’t appeal to me. I have faith she’ll definitley wow me though…and soon.
That necklace was ova!!

I love the white dress on her…
but i’m not feeling the baby-throw-up ensemble she wore to the inauguration. But Michelle is certainly a class act and can pull anything off!

I love the winter white dress Michelle Obama wore to all the inaugural balls I had to make my own replica of the dress. Check out this week’s episode of The Discount Trendsetter Show, http://www.thediscounttrendsettershow.com, to watch “How To Make Michelle Obama’s Inaugural Dress For Under $10.”

I agree with D and Tiger Lily! that split-pea green soup paired with the only pair or ugly nun shoes jimmy choo ever made, liked to killed me! i laid out in my living room clutching a flower and waited for someone to find me and when they did i just pointed to the tv like the fuggery’s begun!
her evening gown looked like somebody’ TP’d a tree or beat the shit outta chocolate bar witta down pillow,[just dumb fa no reason] i’d do u one better. it looked like anythony hamilton’s nappy face in 20 yrs. seriously. she FAILED! y didn’t u put up the pics of the torrible first day o’ church dress. it was a tye dyed nightmares! EW! her style is soooo overrated. i used to love it but the more i looked the more i hopped of her nuts.[at 6ft tall i'm sure she's slangin a pair] i’m over the whole obama mania. after he chose that “faggot hating” bigot to pray over rev wright i was DONE!

Not bad, but definitely overrated.
The styles suit her figure and the white offsets her skin tone, but the color of the day ensemble does nothing for her. Also, the fabric on the ballgown reminds me of something a 16 year-old would wear to the prom.
I give her style here a 6/10
