January 16, 2009 Leona Lewis To Play Mariah On Broadway?

Rumor has it that Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon are looking for several leading ladies who could play the diva herself in a broadway story of her life. They are eying Eva Longoria and Vanessa Hudgens – even the singing sensation Leona Lewis.
“Mariah’s not sure if she’ll star in it herself,” revealed an insider. “If she doesn’t, names being tossed around include High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens and Desperate Housewife Eva Longoria. “But Mariah secretly likes the idea of Leona Lewis playing her. Not only is she exotic, she’s the only one who they reckon would be able to tackle Mariah’s eight-octave vocal range.” Showbiz
We all know that Leona can hit the notes Mariah is known for, but can she truly step into the role as a diva?

UK lies. They better get a trained Broadway singer/actress. I dont see an MC play for ten years, if then. Simon Cowell wants Leona to be the next Mariah.

im from the UK and they are desperate to destroy Mariah and replace her with leona, like leona is ever gonna seel 170 million records (highly unlikely). They are sooo making this up!!! Im soo sick of Leona being shoved down our throats in the UK, she is a vocal mimic and brings nothing new to the table as an artist. Plus she has no personality
And Leona doesnt have mariah’s range, mariah has 5 octaves- leona 3. So vocally she couldn’t pull it off.

As a HUGE Leona Lewis fan, i dont feel that she is “shoved down our throats”. Its impossible actually, considering she releases one song every 2 or 3 months. However, i can see the argument people have over the whistle register.. Leona can not reach as high as Mariah Carey, but having said that, Mariah cannot reach the power that Leona has behind that incredible voice of hers. Mariah is like 15 years older, so she has had more time to get to the whistle register. In my opinion, Leona is probably the best choice, but i doubt she will accept, she will not have the time, new album is getting recorded and released this year, as well as a perfume, and an autobiography… I think that people will have to realise now, that as great Mariah is, her time is over, and its the age of Leona Lewis, who thoroughly deserves the success and fan base that she has… Well, thats my opinion lol

LOL! Leona doesn’t have the range Mariah has. Mariah has the whistle register that Leona will NEVER have. Mariah had the whistle since her teen years and it is too late for Leona to develop it.
Mariah can outsing Leona anyday, anywhere, anytime.

Mariah doesn’t have 8 octave range and never had. She use to have 5 octaves a2 to g#7. Leona has sung d3 to f#6 but hasn’t shown everything. I think leona should not do this as she’ll be remembered as the girl who played mariah and not leona.

I’m a huge Mariah Carey fan (request obsessed on your local radio stations) and I am a Leona Lewis fan (lls at Vanessa Hudgens), but I really don’t think that a broadway play is necessary. I mean come on.
