December 31, 2008 Beyoncé Covers “The Way We Were”
Listen to Beyoncé as she performs her cover of “The Way We Were” in honor of Barbra Streisand at the Kennedy Center Honors reordered December 7, 2008 and aired earlier this week. Two words: divinely splendiferous!

I absolutely loved it! She did a beautiful job. It was wonderful hearing her rendition of it. It looked to me like Ms. Streisand looked a lil like “what was that” when Beyonce did some runs lol but she nodded in approval in the end so I hoped that she enjoyed it.
Love it! Thank you B scott for posting it.

I really liked the performance last night. Is it just me, or did Beyonce look like she put on some weight. When I saw her on Oprah the last time, she looked thinner. Hmmmm

What a magical moment!
Beyonce is having some amazing experiences in the industry.
Everyone seems to love and respect her.
If not she wouldn’t be asked to do all the things she has done from the Kennedy Center, Oscars to the Star Spangled Banner.
I don’t really know the song but Barbara seemed to be pleased with the performance.

I thought it was cool. She pleased the honorees and Babs so that is all that matters. No one can touch Babs’ version but it was honorable.
I had to laugh cause at the end it looked like the dancers were kicking her off stage like she was booed at the Apollo. LOL!!

I do know the song and if you hear Barbara do it, you will realize that while B did it decently, Barbara KILLS it live!!! I love B, and please don’t take this the wrong way, but it was lackluster in comparison to what I’ve seen Barbara do with the song.
Still, kudos to Beyonce because it was an honor to perform at the event and shows her status in the industry.

How much more BORING can Beyonce be? What a lame star search rendition. No emotion at all.

She is very pitchy and she should have tone her voice down a lil more, she carry it well, but no one can do it better than BARBARA, herself. I wish she would stay in her vocal ranges of songs, she is really an alto, but she tries too hard for me with these different ranges of falsetto songs. She needs to understand that you can damage your original voice by stranding it.

Beyonce did great…she ain’t Barbra…she is Beyonce…we all know this but she is one of our biggest successes in the entertainment industry for the 2000s. She is talented thats for sure…and beautiful…and the shit!

Glad she toned down her voice. Shoulda toned it down more. The begining was amazing. The build up reminded me that this is beyonce singing it tho.

I thought it was very beautiful. Her rendition was done wonderfully and I am tired of people always trying to bring Beyonce down, trying to find somthin wrong. Leave her alone……….if you dont like the performance just say it and move on. You can state your opinion in a tasteful positive manor(or at least I hope you can). Instead of being rude about it.

I thought this was a very nice version, at one point I started to get up to go answer the door but was stuck to my chair.Everyone is entitled to their opinions, not everyone agrees but I really enjoyed her performance and appreciate that she doesn’t limit herself and isn’t afraid to go out of her comfort zone. She has matured and grown up in front of our eyes. Great job B!

WOW! That was the 1st time in TOO long of a time that Beyonce just sang without the vocal loops…And YES she sounded great! If she just takes the time to sing the son & not prove to everyone that she can sing, she’ll be alright…Just looking at both singers though, Barbara does kill, hands down! Maybe 2009 will be the year where people will just sing & not OVERKILL a song! Holla!

The best versions of that song are performed by Barbara and Gladys Knight. Gladys’ version might actually trump Barbara’s. Check Gladys on the Diva’s show she appeared on when she sang that song.

Beautiful……..Although I wish people would stop saying “it aint no Barbara though”, of course its not because she is not Barbara, she is a legend in her own right. The wonderful thing about Beyonce is she takes whatever song she is singing and instantly makes it her own whether it be this, or Somewhere over the rainbow, or the ABC’s, we are almost guaranteed to get a Beyonce signature run!!
