November 8, 2008 President Obama Is “A Mutt, Like Me!”
“With respect to the dog,” President-elect Obama said, “this is a major issue.” Playfully discussing the source of the problem—the dog should be a hypoallergenic breed, but they wanted to rescue a shelter dog. “Obviously,” Obama said, “a lot of shelter dogs are mutts, like me.” ~ President-elect Obama
This quote has so made me respect President-elect Obama even more than I already do! This extraordinary multi-ethnic (English, Irish and German descent mother and Kenyan father) man really understands who he is as a person and in every way including genetically represents the beautiful mixture that exist in the United States! All the mutts stand up! (B. Scott clapping for his new President!)

I’m really happy he is getting a rescue animal.
I was hoping that he would.
It teaches his girls and america a very good lesson.
There are too many animals in this country without good homes.
Animals are put to sleep in shelters everyday.
BScott, I love you ~ but you need to GET IN on THAT before you “shop” for Sheba.

“English, Irish and smaller amounts of German descent mother and Kenyan father” B. Scott, you are kidding me. Unlike you, President Obama is NOT trying to move away from being less black. His mother is white and his father is African, period!
On a personal note, you have so much to resolve with yourself and your race. All of a sudden you are President Obama’s biggest supporter not a few months ago you wouldn’t even put up a link to his page. FALL BACK!

Whew! I was so afraid that folks would take offense to this. I am happy however that they didn’t. Lawd, Lawd it feels so good to see him at the press conference yesterday as the man! I almost started crying again. Off to the White House on Monday with THE first lady!!!

While I understand the point Barack was tying to make and I love th reference to his multi-ethnic background and the changing faces of America, I thought the comment was in poor taste. I mean calling mixed people “mutts” is a little extra, even if he is biracial himself.
I love Barack, but he was reaching on that comment. He was doing TOO much and he risked offending and alienating people with that statement. Love the humor, not in that moment.

I loved it. I also loved that they preferred getting a shelter dog. It would make a great Disney movie … from shelter dog to White House pet.

Sassydancer is right. I saw somewhere that about 90% of blacks in this country are multiethnic. I know I am even though both my parents are considered black both my mom and dad are ethnically mixed. I think if all people of african descent just embrace each other and not create divisions based on “well I’m mixed with this and that” then we would take a step closer to creating the unity we love to talk about.

First off, yes, most black people in this country are mutlicultural but this has nothing to do with that. This has everything to do with loving yourself and identifing something in this man that you go through. You guys don’t know what it’s like to confused growing up of where you fit in or what color you identify with. There’s no divison! There is nothing wrong with being proud of who you are no matter “what you’re mixed with” And how was he aleinating people? I felt empowered even more so than before when he was just “black” in the media. See yes we should be happy because he is black but coming from where we come from, people making jokes about being cnfused and not being accepted by family members, it gives us some sort of pride. He is America.

Antyhon, maybe you should sit back and try to accept yourself. So because he once was a Hilary supporter he has no right to say anything about President Obama? Grow up! B supports him so get over it and you fall back. SMH

G, great comment. I think when we point out that he is “English, Irish and smaller amounts of German descent” we do create division instead of looking at what is alike about us all. G great comment!!!!

“we have a president that represents All OF AMERICA…when i look at barack and his family i see mine.”?
Ok so your family represents all of America? So if we had a 100% black president he would only represent a certain percentage of America? People Pleeeeease.. Any one whos running for president represents the USA. Stop with this bs.. all u biracial children need to stop projecting all your issues on to barack.. The man considers himself Black, and thats what he is. He also represents all of us Black, White, Asian, Hispanic etc. and he has always said this..

Deja, Nick and some others, Its really good to see some people have independent thoughts and we are not all apart of this GROUP think!
Nick, well said! You could divide yourself 100 different ways with 100 different races but what America ultimately sees is your dominant race. You could be mixed 99% white and 1 percent anything else, as long as you look like that 1% of whatever race, that is what America sees. People are so disillusioned. And I think Barack understands that, B. Scott we are waiting on you to understand that (no, not really)!

What a great thing! Obama represents us all! Very proud to be an American and American mutt at that!
I was very happy to hear Obama reference his bi-racial background. Not everyone in this country is one or the other and it makes this multi-racial woman proud to hear the president elect address that!
