November 7, 2008 Christina & Madonna On Prop 8!
In Los Angeles Thursday night, many demonstrators hit the streets for the second straight to protest Tuesday’s passage of California’s Proposition 8 (a ballot measure to amend the state’s constitution to ban same-sex marriages). Love muffins, I am ticked off that this state of all states has banned it! Christina Aguilera “[doesn't] understand how people can be so close-minded”. During Madonna’s ‘Sweet and Sticky’ tour according to MTV.com, she stated that she was sorry “we did not win Proposition 8. If we can have an African-American in the White House, we can have gay marriage.”
Change is coming – slowly but surely. It was great while it lasted. Thoughts?

Basically, blacks have come further than gays. Although I do not believe prop 8 should have been passed I do not think it should ever be compared to the struggle of African Americans. I am insulted by Madonna’s statement. She hasn’t a clue and needs to sit down somewhere. No white person, gay or straight will ever know or understand my struggle as a black person or my ancestors struggle. I had to put several people in their place already for comparing the two. Don’t get me rowled up….LOL

Im Gay and do NOT beleave in Gay marriage (which theres actually alot of gays in the Latin community who dont as well). Gay union is perfectly fine I dont understand gay people some times, its like we are respected enough get the fuck over it. And for the record a Black President has noting to do with religion, which gay marriage DOES…

The saddest part is how Blacks and Latinos overwhelmingly supported the ban to protect their “children and families.”
The funny thing is Blacks and Latinos make up most of the kids in the California foster care system so maybe they need to spend more time worrying about taking care of their own damn kids instead of worrying about who people choose to love and marry.

I DONT WANNA GET MARRIED AT ALL BUT IF I DID ITS THE FACT THAT I COULDNT….YEAH GAY UNIONS ARE COOL, BUT WAT IF UR PARTNER DIES…. PEOPLE HAVE THE RIGHT TO COME IN AND TAKE WATEVER THEY WANTED ..WE ALSO DONT GET THE SAME MEDICAL ADVANTAGES AS MARRIED COUPLES….IT HURTS ME AND I THINK ITS JUST ONE MORE THING TO PAINT US UNATUAL……

Gay Marriage has NOTHING to do with religion unless it is in a CHURCH!! I am happily married to a man. We had to go up to Canada to do it, but we are happily married. Both of us are Buddhists. Church, God, Buddha, or America had NOTHING to do with our getting married. You know who did? It was us. The two of us. This country is fucked up in it’s ways and most of the people are as well. “If you don’t believe in Same-sex marriage then don’t marry someone of the same sex!”

So true DOYS. So true! I hate it too. Just looking at all the old photos of blacks having their skin ripped off from the water hose. The horrible dogs mauling the children. It’s a long list and until I read that gays had over 400 years of terror then I would agree with that statement. Till then Madge needs to STFU

Gay people are getting killed because of who they are TODAY.
Gay kids are beat up and harassed TODAY.
Gay kids are more likely to committ suicide because of the alientaion from their families and society TODAY.
To say its any different from the struggle of African Americans or Latinos or Chinese is ignorant. Hate is hate. There is no worser hate and this hate was not as bad as that hate. And African Americans should be the FIRST ones to support ending discrimination against groups of people, but sadly in California they chose not to.

I am a heterosexual female. I believe strongly that to take back a right that has been already given is wrong. I don’t think it right to compare it to the black struggle. I do wonder if this issue would have come to this result if the wording were different.
Calling it a MARRIAGE changes something we all hold dear. If perhaps it were not to be referred to as a Marriage but something specific and exclusively gay and lesbian, like gay union, I wonder if the result would be the same.
The right to love and care for someone else should have never had to come to a vote. To tell a majority to vote for the rights of a minority is absolutely absurd. In am also a health care worker so Ive seen people deal with their demise alone, its a sad thing. You should be able to will and make anyone you love your beneficiary.

Did u say HATEFULLEST…its cool u was mad lol
anyway, im Gay n its just not time yet, it will come but just one step at a time…i fimly belive that keeping Gays depressed directly results in SELF HATRED, which results to:
Disease/ AIDS
Prostitution
DL MEN
And high suicide among adolescences
I believe treating homosexuals EXACTLY the same can stop some of this…but its just my opinion.
PS – Teaching a kid about homosexuality, doesnt turn them gay…

BELOVED!!! OMG you have hit it! I am tired of hearing black people compare black discrimination to slavery. Slavery is gone. I think you worded that so perfectly. Discrimination is discrimination. Hate is Hate. Slavery was what it was. It was a terrible thing for the slaves to go through. But, blacks today have no right to use that to their advantage. They are not owed anything for what their ancestors went through. Nothing. What one group goes through today is exactly what another goes through TODAY. Whether you are “different” because of your skin color or sexuality. The laws have changed over time to rid the world of different kinds of hate and discrimination. The Jews got hit with the Holocaust, Blacks with slavery, Woman with certain rights such as the right to vote and the right to work, Japanese during WWII, and now Gays. All we ask is to be able to marry the one we love. Religion has nothing to do with it. Where is religion involved when 2 people get married in a courthouse? Or when 2 people drive through and get married by Elvis in Vegas? Where is the damn religion? I would like someone to please help me figure out where god is in play in either one of those situations. If certain churches or religions do not want to marry 2 men or 2 women in “the eyes of god” then so be it. But, we should be able to marry in non-religious ceremonies or in churches that would allow it. And the states and country should recognize it. There is supposed to be a separation between church and state. Why isn’t there?
I hope Obama will bring the change that he has promised. I was so happy to see him become president. Hopefully he will take a step and bring Civil Unions into law. That will at least be a first step.

Listen my best friend of over 25 years is Gay and strongly don’t beleive in Gay marriage. See any race can be in the “White House”, but marriage to straight and (Surprisingly Gays), don’t wish to mess with MARRIAGE in that manner.
** On the other hand when a gay spouse dies there love one can not claim what they have left behind and the family can come in a claim it.
Marriage is way more than (a piece of paper) having something done legally at a JP, or church.
All things has it’s time and place, it may change as well as it may not.

@ Robert, I really do not think Black people are using slavery to their advantage.
This is turning into a racial issue and what we really need to do instead is educate the people that voted for Prop 8. The people that voted for it come in all shapes, color, religions and sizes, so no race is to blame.
On another subject, did you guys hear about Arkansas’ proposition against gays adopting! That’s crazy, so many children need homes, why discriminate :0(
We are making baby steps, but still have a long way to go….

I am NOT gay. Anyway to the point I dont understand what the problem is I think that gay people should have the right to marry and be as unhappy as I am! However my gay friend & her “lover” are thinking about adopting a child now I DO NOT AGREE with this. They know how I feel about this. I just think if you cant produce your own u dont need them. Besides every childs needs a mother & father or 1 of each.

Generally speaking, I don’t think gays understand the struggle of blacks in america.
And generally speaking, I don’t think blacks understand the struggle of gays in america.
they really are their own unique set of challenges.
I also feel like the culture’s view of gay people is so warped and out-of-touch with reality – I mean, if I perceived gays that way most people do – I wouldn’t want them to have marriage rights either. To me, the perception and understanding of gays is sooo warped.

I’m offended my Madonna’s comment. Comparing the black struggle to the gay struggle is completely apples and oranges and insensitive to say the least.
Dirtoffyashoulders…i agree with your post.
