ashanti can certainly stand with the best and im not talkin bout beyawnsey or christina. she can sing just as good as them if not better. she did beautiful on this. i have been waiting to see what she could do. now to wait for better, stronger songs.

WOW. I saw WICKED a few years back and was in love with the songs. They are definitely hard to sing. And I can NOT believe Ashanti sounded so well. GO HEAD!!! lol I agree with whoever said she should pick some more powerful songs to showcase this voice I had no idea she had! I’m smiling right now. I love to be shocked!

Okay, had Ashanti continued the song solo, then I would say she did the best… but, once Ana Gasteyer, Idina Menzel and Christen Chenoweth (the original Elphabas from chicago and broadway respectively, and Glinda) It was over for Ashantis okay vocals… I’m sorry, I like Ashanti sometimes, but I was so excited to see Idina, I forgot she was even singing…

am I just not hearing what you all are hearing? I’ll admit she does sound improved and I’m happy for her. The last part was pretty good but honestly she still sounds kind of flat in some parts and sharp in some parts. I mean, I’ve never and can’t see myself ever buying one of her csds or anything but good luck ashanti! Now I’m not one to hate on anybody but I am honest and honestly ashanti cannot stand in the same league as many others out there the same way that many of them arent as good as her. BUT if she keeps working, she’ll get better. Kudos.

I always thought she could sing. But she can’t saaaang. Which is ok as long as the song is hot. There are different levels of singing to me. She falls into the category of as long as the beat is hot fire, or the ballad is catchy then it’s hot. I’ve never disliked her abilities but it just doesn’t fall into the make hair stand up, give me tingles singing.

I think the problem is that alot of people think that people who sing well have to hit high notes and scream EVERYTIME they present their voices to prove they sing well – which is untrue…
Ashanti just proved that her chosen style of singing isn’t reflective on her actual singing ability.

Okay okay. I was one of them who said Ashanti can’t sing (Yeah she had performances were her vocal abilities were BLAH!) but got damn that note at the end…get it ASHANTI. Big improvement. I’m proud.

oh snaps! now see ashanti is my girl! no matter what, that’s been my girl from jump! however i was a little nervous for her career because people (like B. Scott and ‘a song for you’ said) were just unneccessarily mean to her! now defying gravity is not an easy song to sing. you have all these different vocal parts you have to do. but Shanti killed it! it was a bit wobbly in the beginning, but she made up for it in the end! work shanti!

Alright Ashanti!! Now she did that and she was not sharp! Defying Gravity is a hard song to sing and it closes Act One of the show and it’s a show stopper and the actress playing the role has to have pipes. Kudos to Ashanti for pulling it off.

This clearly shows she need better material that will showcase her range more.

honeybfly your right there is room for both. seems like nowdays people think you can only have beyonce and rhianna as top black females in music, but when i was little you had a whole lot of black females in music doing their thing like Whitney, Janet, Toni Braxton, Brandy, monica, aaliyah, envogue, tlc. you use to have options back then, now its just two. what happened? Ashanti’s first cd is still a classic to me.
