Yesterday, Beyonce revealed her two brand new singles “If I Were A Boy” and “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”. But before “If I Were A Boy” was released, rumor had it that BC Jean did a demo for Beyonce, but it looks like BC wrote the song for herself and recorded it for herself. Either way it goes, Beyonce has the song now. Who sang it better – Beyonce or BC?

No, I definently don’t think that BC sang it better. In fact, I think it’s a matter of taste because BC has some Melissa Etheridge in her voice. I think she sang it wonderfully and people who like that sound will naturally go for that, but Beyonce worked it out in her way..which is what she was aiming for. Naturally, she really did a great job. Obviously the song was given to Beyonce for a reason..if they thought that it was done better by BC then it wouldn’t been given to and put out by Beyonce.

I have to say BC’s voice is better suited to this kind of song it just sounds more sincere coming from her. I agree w/ mikequaint that Beyonce is a bit over rated sorry.

BC Jean all day every day. Her original version just makes Beyonce’s sound like Karaoke. Don’t get me wrong, Beyonce has soul…but her voice doesn’t have that RAWNESS to pull off this kind of song. Her voice is too prim and proper. BC Jean sound raw and personal.
This is the type of song that someone with a voice like Pink would have shined on. Or maybe even Fantasia. Someone who knows how to put the pain in their vocals. And that ain’t Beyonce.

I didn’t even like the song from Beyonce’s version but the other girl’s version sounds so good. This isn’t a Beyonce song which is why Beyonce picked it I’m sure. But Beyonce doesn’t do it for me.

But sometime people writes songs to fit their voices and sound, this song was not written for Bey, but I bet she has put her name down for credits.

now see the song is perfect now. beyonce can sing yes we all know but she CAN NOT SING EVERY SONG. i dont care what anybody say every song is not fit for beyince voice. BC sounds great singing this song. its more emotional and shes sining from her heart. well thats what i get from BC singing the song.
and just because a publishing company sold a song dont mean they think another singer will be better at the song. hell its so many beyonce stans in this world that a publishing company know, some ppl will purchase anything beyonce release, LOL

I like Beyonce’s version better, she puts that raw soul and th emoition in it, i mean if you really close your eyes and just listen to Beyonce’s version you can feel it like deep down in your soul and body. I mean she really worked this one over. LOVE IT!

Bey vs BC. I didnt like it when I first heard it, but I like BC’s version a lot better. They both did the song justice in my opinion. I heard it and fell in love with Beyonce’s version, but when I listened to BC’s version I fell in love with it even more. I agree that the BC Jean version is more emotional than Beyonce’s, but Beyonce still killed that.

Umm im sorry but Beyonce took this one.. Umm the other girl sounds exactly like she looks..just another lil white girl with no soul. She reminds me of Ashley Simpson, which is not a bad thing really. Just depends on ur taste in music I guess. Ima have to stick with my beautiful brown sista Beyonce.

I am Beyonce’s #1 fan and I mean that. Buuuut the other chic just fit the song better….like someone else said she has that rugged Melssa Ethridge sound…she sounds so emotional…and that’s most likely because she wrote it; and probably from a personal experience…so she sounds like she felt it more…like it really came from the heart…Bey just sounds like she heard it, liked it and thought it would be a good hit. Bey’s vocals are allllways on point, but just doesn’t fit this song…

its funny how the song sounds completely different depending on who you hear sings it. BC version is more light rock/ rock pop while B’s is more soul-pop.
Like someone stated earlier, it really just depends on which type of sound/music you gravitate towards. They both do it for me in their own way.

BC hands down. Beyonce really lacks raw soul in her voice. I like Beyonce, I really do, but in all of her songs I always feel like she is missing some depth.

I agree with Brandon33. I liked BC version much better than beyonce. I like the rawness in her voice and it just suits her better. Now if Pink, fergie or Fantasia would have did this song they would have tore it up cause they put emotions in there voice to pull something like this off. BC should have kept the song for herself.

Beyonce is okay on this one. Not a lot of “range” in her voice to make it believable so that is why I’m not feeling her.
But who is BC again and why is she given free demos to Beyonce and her weasel daddy over at Music World Ent?!?!?!? I guess that BC will learn soon enough that those people are cut-throat. She should ask former DC member Michelle Williams or I mean Tanika or whatever her name is now…

This is why i hate beyonce, she never writes her own songs but claims songrwiting credits! That really pisses me off. She is clearly a singer, not a writer, a performer but not an actress. She needs to realize and accept this.
I have listened to the bey version and it was boring, so i won’t torture myself and listen to either versions again.
The same thing happened with karina pasian, she sang official girl but they gave it to cassie. The music business is a bitch!!!

I doubt if some of these posting even listened to BC’s version. It’s all about a matter of taste and what entices your pallet. BC’s version is a pop/rock sound and is mediocre at best. Beyonce’s is a pop/r&b sound that took me listening to it a few times before I really liked it. I believe the lyrics more coming from Beyonce’s version. Don’t jump on the bandwagon or pretend that you’re being objective when you know what your intentions were before writing your critique.

*shameless Bey fan* I like both versions actually. But I think it depends on what genre you lean towards. BC is more pop/rock and Beyonce’s is more pop/soul type.
Bey’s vocals are more crisp. Not too much vibrato, mostly in her runs. BC’s vocals were raw and more punchy. Every vocalist approaches a song different …
I think they both did a great job! FYI: Tony Gab wrote this song … Bey just wound up snagging it in the end.

Honestly both.
I’ve listened to both versions many times and it’s really hard to choose >-<.
Beyonce has a better sound it’s very smooth
While BC is rough and her vocals are raw, but it works for her and I like it.
So I can’t decide, I like the monotone for B because its like she’s hallow inside which is a feeling some people get in situations like that, then BC’s voice has so much emotion that seems to be out of anger, yet sadness.
It all depends on your music taste.

I have to say Beyonce, because I think she has a nice voice. But then I have to agree BC shows good emotion while delivering her version…That’s probably cause SHE wrote it! They have two different styles of singing. It’s a toss up for me. But this isn’t the first time I’ve heard of Beyonce having song controversy…”Resentment” from her B’day Album – Jazmine Sullivan and Victoria Beckham sang it first. I don’t know…..
