My girl Michelle Williams (of Destiny’s Child) strutted her little figure down the carpet at the ‘First Annual People Red Carpet Fun Run’ Sunday afternoon at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles. If you don’t know, she is a judge on MTV’s newest show Top Pop Group. I saw a part of it and she wasn’t just giving singing advice. The show is about being in a pop group if I’m not mistaken. Who better to judge them than a member of the biggest selling/most popular girl group ever? And, I think Michelle can sing. She’s just not a powerhouse (but neither is Beyonce or Kelly so she fit right in IMO)

You’re a hypocrite. How can you say in the Beyonce photoshoot post that people have a right to an opinion and then turn around and contradict it by your statement above? All I did was correct you on what Michelle does on the show. And, to correct you again, BOTH of Beyonce’s solo albums got pushed back. Her first was supposed to be released BEFORE Kelly’s, but Kelly had the song with Nelly out, so they pushed hers up and pushed Bey’s back. Do I think Mathew shows favoritism? Sure, but Michelle STILL knows the industry inside out and she can give them good advice so I think she deserves to be there (and obviously so did MTV). And, I know about the Dixie Chicks and they don’t come anywhere close to DC with sales/tours/popularity. The only reason people even cared about them on a huge level was because of their anti-Bush statements after 9/11.

@southern, nope your wrong THE DIXIE CHICKS are popular, and they was popular before the bush statements. As i said before go and check billboard and you’ll see they outsold dc on so many levels. just because you dont see THE DIXIE CHICKS, dont equate to not being more successful as dc.

I NEVER said isht about Beyonce. We were discussing DC, so at least stay relevant to the argument. I don’t equate popularity with being everywhere. I equate it with album and ticket sales. And, last I checked, no one was checking for the Dixie Chicks outside of the US. DC, however, was INTERNATIONAL. I never said you couldn’t have an opinion, just be accurate, precise, and correct when doing so.

I don’t know the truth behind who’s sold more, since there seems to be contradicting information about that. According to Wikipedia (which, as we all know, can be pretty flawed sometimes), the Dixie Chicks “are the highest-selling female musical group in any genre, having sold over 36 million albums as of May 2008.” But as for Destiny’s Child, they “sold over 17.5 million records in the United States, and over 50 million records worldwide. According to the World Music Awards, they are the world’s best-selling female group of all time.” So who knows what the truth is? All I can say is that I like both for different reasons and it’s pointless to compare one to the other since they bring such different things to the table.
That being said…I like Michelle Williams, and although I don’t think even she will say that she is close to being a major success as a solo artist, she has been part of a very popular and very successful group. Irregardless of how much of a part she played in creating that popularity and success, she struggled through the music industry just as much as another musician and she has experience with a top-selling pop group. I think that’s worthy of dispensing some advice, wouldn’t you say?

@starlight, well you can say the same thing about vanilla ice and mc hammer. they both were successful once upon a time but look at what happened to them. mc hammer made 33million in one year and then he had to file for bankruptcy. oh but im going to take advice from him, nope im not. yes he was successful but he lost damn near all of it. so im not taking advice from him. well id do the opposite of what he did do.
@southern as i said before dc is not international stars as you so claim they are. The dixie chicks are very successful, once again just because you dont go and see them dont mean theyre not selling out concert stadiums. black ppl have a lot to learn. i still cant believe some ppl think dc and beyonce have sold so many cds and in reality they havent. lol

@MyOpinion: Well, Michelle’s not bankrupt. Unlike (apparently, from what I’ve heard) Rihanna. I won’t say that she’s a star, but she’s always been fairly stable. And at least she’s willing to offer sensible advice; many “stars” would not do as much.

I went on at least 10 different sites in regards to sales of BOTH groups and EVERY SINGLE ONE said DC sold more records. How is DC not international, yet they’ve sold out arenas ALL OVER THE WORLD? Isn’t that an international group? I NEVER one said that TDC don’t sell out stadiums. I said they haven’t sold out more than DC, nor have they done it internationally like DC. MyOpinion, it seems to me that you’re just in denial and hate anything related to Beyonce. Just admit your bias and I’ll have more respect for you. Or better yet, give me a link saying TDC sold more records or concert tix than DC and I’ll gladly admit being wrong. Until then, I’m done.
