Love muffins you know I just had to ask who sung “At Last” better. Was it Beyonce at Fashion Rocks, which aired last night on CBS or was it Christina Aguilera who performed the Etta James song during her Stripped tour live in London (November 2003).

Christina chile!!! And Ms. Etta James loves her some Christina as well. Christina has always been a fan of Etta James and even met her during an In-Style interview some years back and said it was the highlight of her life. I hope they let Christina record the rendition on the soundtrack, but we all know Matthew Knowles will not stand for that!!!

I don’t know WHAT ya’ll are listening to! Christina voice beats Bey’s all day, any day, but she was doing WAAAAAAAAY too much! All that extra stuff (which, coincidentally, Bey is famous for) was not needed. If you ask me, neither did the song justice, but Bey sang it better because she kept it simple and soulful like Etta did.

If I had to pick which was better…I would have to say Beyonce…Christina had too much going on…too many runs…it took away from the simplicity of the song and how it was originally performed! But its no love loss for Christina…she is an awesome talent!

Beyonce hands down. Firstly, neither one of them captured the Etta James spirit. Etta is a timeless voice that really can’t be duplicated by sweet voices. If you listen to timeless voices like Nina Simone, Etta James, Aretha Franklin… no one from today could really ever capture the originality of their voice. Their voices are trained to be that way… they just are. Besides, all that rolling and extra vabrato with Christina… give it a rest please.

i have to say beyonce did this time because she kept it simple. added her own touch to it but didn’t take it far away from etta’s original. x-tina sang it a lot better during her “stripped” tour but i don’t like how she did it in this video. it was just too much. her version in her “stripped” tour is HOT. she definitely killed it then.

As history repeats its self, Chris Murders all these lil industry chicks out of their recording contracts. As I was watching beyonce “perform” this last night I couldnt help but think…if it aint etta no body should ever think about singing this song but christina. Etta is Christina’s true idol vocally, and she pays respect. Beyonce was channeling her tired Dream Girls routine and trying to put that into a tribute to Ms. Etta…with her yodals and way dramtic runs..that she does in every song. Christina has SOUL..pure and raw talent there is just no way around it, so deal wit it!
And Haley Im black and a huge population of christina’s fanbase is..so lets not play the race card..thats just reaching a tad bit..

I think both ladies sang great versions of the song although I prefer Beyonce’s more subdued version. As for those hailing Christina for making it her own with runs etc., you have to consider that Beyonce is portraying Etta James in a movie and therefore would understandably keep her version more in the style of the original.

I love Beyonce, but the difference between her and Christina is simple; Beyonce performed the song and Christine felt the song. I love Christins’a version from the first note to the last. Beyonce’s performance,although vocally it was good;it came across staged. This is one of the few times that I did not feel Beyonce at the core.

It’s hard to say. They sang it differently, but both did a really good job. If I had to say I’d pick Beyonce because Christina was doing a little too much. Bey kinda kept it the way Etta did for the most part. It was kinda creepy how much Bey looked like her, though!

I’ll take Beyoncé’s version. Simple and soulful. “At Last” is not a gospel church song, its a love song meant to be tender and soul stirring, not preachy and screaming on a sunday morning solo.

beyonce can sing but this song is not for her and judging by her singing this i know she fucked up in that movie. Christina sounds way better than beyonce, it was like Christina felt the song more and Christina was rough at times and thats what this song calls for.

well none of the versions are even remotely close to the original, so I can’t base my opinion on who emulated the original version. Based on the performance, I say chrissy. She kept me more engaged and entertained. Honestly, I didn’t finish watching the Beyonce one because I grew bored. I was all into christina’s performance, mostly because I wanted to know wtf she was laughing at.

BEYONCE’S version. most definitely. Don’t get me wrong, both these women have spectacular voices. but the song is meant to be soulful.. with a tint of humble i guess you could say.. but it’s a soft song.. beyonce had much more simple, sultry, classic soul.. as opposed to Christina’s more church choir song.. Christina changed the song up much more.. and put more of her into it.. while beyonce was MUCH more classic with it. loved them both though! ^_^

CHRISTINA hands down!!!!!!! I love me some B, however her performace was rather boring and very much staged. Christina’s put her own flare on the song and felt the lyrics she sang. All the runs and extra-that’s her. Some may not like it, but that’s her style and the girl has amazing talent! okay, b switched the versions around which was a good idea. the one he had up of x-tina yesterday was not a good version. this is the one i was talking about that she did during her stripped tour and i still think she KILLED it. i’m a bigger fan of x-tina personally and i loved the way she sang it a lot better but i still like beyonce’s version given the fact that she still only added a little bit of her own style to it and kept it simple. she looks hot in that wig too. lol! i love both versions but i still like x-tina better. just my opinion……..

I like both versions. I think Christina has a little more range than beyonce but at times does over do it..they both do really…but in any event… other than Etta’s version, I really love Tina Moore’s version. Her voice is amazing..she has a similar style to early Whitney…I wish she was still singing…check her out…

Christina has performed ‘At Last’ many, many times at her concerts. If you go to You Tube, then you will see that Christina gives the song the feeling it was meant to give. No one can sing it like Etta (may Mary J, because she has a raw & soulful sound), but the feeling that Etta gives the song, is the same feeling Christina gives the song. Beyonce did a good job, but Christina did a better one. And I’m fans of both.
Also, I’m not one of Christina white fans either Ms. Haley.

Beyonce can not be compared to Mariah,Whitney,Deborah Cox,Celine Dion,Patti Labell, Aretha Franklin..Because she has made it clear that her voice is one to be desired, just as these ladies. I love Christina, and think her voice is undeniable, but she is something we have heard before. You hear Beyonce sing, and it’s like, you can’t place her in a genre or place her against another singer, because she is a league of her own. That’s what it means to be a true vocalist. To have a style that is going to be replicated for years to come. Beyonce could have taken it home with the “Dangerously In love” adlibs, or went for the “Flaws & All” notes, or even took it one octave up to “happy Face ” G4, she decided to remain classy! This is a elgant song that dosen’t call for too much!!!1!1

But if you want to compare their versions to Etta James….Christina has a much raspier voice than Beyonce (who’s very smooth) so Christina’s voice suited the song better.
