September 4, 2008 Oprah’s Mom Not Paying Her Bills?
I know what you must be thinking and I was thinking the same thing. How is it that Oprah’s mother is having problems paying anything, especially her bills?
Vernita Lee has allegedly rolled up a $150K bill since 2004 at a Brookfield, Wi. clothing boutique — and hasn’t paid it back. So now the store, Valentina, is trying to get its money the hard way — in court. The store’s attorney tells the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel the Oprah-ma hasn’t been making minimum monthly payments of $2,000 for some time. TMZ
Her daughter is a billionaire and gives away cars to a studio full of people and her mom has a $150,000 bill that is not being paid. Come on O, you can dig that out of your couch cushions. Thoughts?

From what I hear her mama gets a hefty allowance, not that they have the best relationship. I understand taking care of your own, but sometimes they take advantage of you. When do you draw the line, I mean really?

actually Oprah and her mom hardly get along. If you notice on Oprah’s show she talks more about the great job her dad did as a father and how her mother pretty much sent her off after she was raped by a family memember. I don’t blame Oprah, I wouldn’t pay that mess either! lol

First of all, why does Oprah mother have a $150,000 bill at a CLOTHING STORE. And I’m pretty sure she already gets an allowance so that means she spending all of it irresponsibly. I’m willing to bet that this is not the first time something like this has happened and that Oprah is tired of bailing her butt out. Sounds like Mama Lee is taking advantage. I wouldn’t pay that bill either.

i’ve always heard that as well… that she and her mom don’t get along anyway. not saying she shouldn’t help her out but if she gives her mom a huge allowance anyway then this shit right here is proof that her mom is probably trying to take advantage of her, ya know? i don’t think O is scandalous like that. i just think there’s A LOT more to it we don’t know about….

Oprah paid a similar bill like this a couple of years ago for her mother, I wonder if it’s the same store. IMO the store was stupid to extend that amount of credit to a person with no income. Sounds like Oprah may be using the tough love approach this time around.

I don’t know if anyone else saw the episode Oparah did on finacial dependency, but it was about people who are draining their families of money because they have poor money management skills. Oparah had 3 women on the show who had put so much strain on their families that they were at a breaking point. She even commented that at times, people made her feel like she wasn’t a person, she was just a bank to them! I read this article somewhere else, and it said that the mom was using the stores custom services and home deliveries. In my opinion, she was wasting money for no reason other than the fact that Oparah is her dauther. If anyone one knows Oparah, they know that she had a terrible early childhood because of her mom. She’ll never say it, but that was what happened. Her mom ran off and left her with an abusive grandma because she didn’t want to be bothered with her. Then when she did move to where her mom was, she had to sleep outside on the porch because she was so black and nappy-headed. Then of course, she was raped by several men that her mom bought into her life! I don’t understand why people, and most especially black people, just think that because your mom is your mom, you have to treat them a certain way. Yes, they did give birth to you, but Oparah was so damaged because of the poor choices her mother made! A bad mom is a bad mom, and they should be made to realize this. She should be sued, and Oparah shouldn’t bail her out.

First of all, had that not been Oprah’s mom, I doubt VERY seriously this boutique would let her round up a $150K bill. The fact is because it was “Oprah-ma” they allowed it to get so outrageously out of control to the point of suit, so they could get that extra cash for the liability. They ain’t slick lol & Oprah’s mom know waaaaaay better than that. Had that been an ordinary Madea from the hood, she wouldn’t have been able to put an “on the house” charge of $150.00 let alone $150,000.00. Funny!

I Overstand that it’s a mother, but it’s not like she racked up bills for food to help feed some needy family (she needs $150,000 for clothing), I say (and I DON’T speak this way mostly). Take her Ass to court.
That money can help so many of us less fortunate people/Love Muffins and this is what the drama ia about.

Opra shouldn’t pay shit. Her mother treated her really bad. Where was her mother when she needed her the most when she was a child and needed her pertection and her love. Forgive but I would keep my distance from my mother.

Oprah’s mom once was living with another woman, and that woman made Oprah sleep out on the porch because she though Oprah was too black to sleep in the house.
I wouldn’t pay her bill either.

you all do know that OPRAH didn’t give out cars on her show, FORD did. Have some basic advertising understanding people.
secondly, how many people with financial irresponsibility are honest about their bills?
and given their history, would Oprah actually know unless she told her? probably not.
