August 26, 2008 Nelly Stands His Ground!
Nelly put his foot down when he had to defend his video for “Tip Drill” towards a female radio host. I can see why many think this video is offensive, but you can’t always blame the rappers. The women in the videos are the ones shaking it and grinding on the poles with booty cheeks flapping. He did make some valid points about the media always focusing on the negative and never the positive things that he is apart of. For those of you who have never seen the “Tip Drill” video, view it after the jump (warning this video is uncut). I truly hope the ladies were extra fresh, because I saw a nose all in someones crack, I’m just saying.

I can honestly say that the first time I saw the video it was pretty graphic and I had no desire to watch the video again, even now. But the video was made for adults and adults were who decided to be in the video.

Those women in the video KNOW what is required of them to be in the video so as far as I’m concerned..so long as they don’t show it on daytime tv my daughter will never see it bc her lil tail willbe in the bed. I’m her role model is my point.

I don’t like this video. I feel women is degraded.
Music vidoes shouldn’t be porn. No class at all.
Mainstream hip hop disapoints me for real!!

ok…let’s hold artists in every genre, not just hip hop, accountable for the material in which they put out, we’ve made this point. but, like we’ve all been saying since this issue became an “issue”, this and other videos like it were only shown between the hours of 3am and 4am so if anybodys child is up that late then we have nobody to blame but their parents. this video can be very degrading to women yes but nobody held a gun to anyones head and said “shake your naked ass in my video”. my final point, i highly doubt this video or any other video on uncut would have ever been made had the show not existed so if we’re going to jump bad at the artists how about we pop off on BET too!

Nelly stood his ground alright. He stood his ground on rotten, sinking, putrid sand. There is nothing admirable about the ground on which he stands. He stands for the proposition that it is morally ok to depict women, Black women in particular, as subservient, jiggling, stripper bimbos and hos. And black men as ignorant, animalistic, salivating, predatory beasts. If he can be unrepentant about perpetuating such hateful primitive views about Blacks, he must also support the mission of the KKK.

Once again we’re putting the blame on Nelly and not on the women who agreed to do this. These are consenting GROWN adults choosing to do whatever with their body they please. Noone says Hugh Hefner is degrading women, hes considered “the man”…let it go, this whole “blame Hip Hop for this and that” is getting played..CAN WE GET ANOTHER SCAPEGOAT PLEASE?

Abhor, the women weren’t in the studio being interviewed. If they were, perhaps you would have a point. Moreover, Nelly is in a position of financial power; he has many options before him, and his economic status is secure. He and some other rappers choose to degrade African-Americans publicly although they have many options before them that do not lead to such toxic products. As for the women, their culpability must be viewed in light of the more limited choices and power they have in society. Further, where have you been? People have criticized Hugh Hefner, et al for decades for degrading women. Have you ever heard of the feminist movement?

I’m not really a Nelly fan, besides that one song he did with Kelly, and the fact that he’s with Ashanti, and I like her. Having said all that, I never saw this video, but I heard about all the drama it caused. Now seeing this for the first time, I am disgusted. This video was straight up porn. All it was missing was penetration (sorry B if that’s too graphic!) I don’t think he had a good argument, either. He wants to make it seem like he was doing so much good for the community, which in a way I guess he was, but would he have been doing all of that if his sister hadn’t gotten the illness? It doesn’t justify it at all, at least not to me, anyway. Yeah, the women knew that they were doing, but at the same time, it falls on him because it was his song and his video and he was all in there touching and rubbing on those women. Very degrading, using them like that is just wrong. And the credit card down the “trail” was WAY too much.
Okay… starting to vent…

I personally dont see the reason these females and some males are still barking over this video. It clearly looks to me that these are some grown ass women dancing in this video who clearly do this type of dancing and are in this atmosphere on a regular day basis. You CAN NOT blame nelly, hip hop, rappers, blacks, whites, the man, or anybody else for what job someone chooses. I dont know who appointed these people as the degrading sheriffs. Who we need to be having an uproar at is this HBCU that turns down a drive for leukemia donors over a 4 minute damn video. They chose to hold onto their “degrading women bible” over someone life. WOW!!!!

The video was never shown during daytime. It was a video he decided to make for the late uncut videos that are always on during late nights. Why making such a big deal about this is beyond my recognition. Kids shouldn’t be able to see it since it’s passed their bedtimes. Plus, the ladies are all grown women and I’m pretty sure they were okay doing their things. They weren’t forced to be on the video, but it was their decisions. Give him a break. You guys act like you guys have never seen a video like this from other rappers before.

Nelly video showed everyone what these woman do everyday at the local stripclub. Where I might add most men have gone to.( and don’t think your man never been to a stripclub). I’m sick of blaming Nelly. If people want to save woman from degrading themselves, talk to the woman in these types of videos. Also, if your upset by want you see, TAKE ACTION!!!! Volunteer to work with girls that are risk for this line of work. Ask yourself what have you done to make a change.

Carlos, i somewhat agree with women’s options/power in society being the reason that they take alternate jobs but in this case i have to disagree. These women were more than likely NOT getting paid (or not a lot) but decided to do this for “exposure”. I’ve heard it many times, women appearing in videos like this thinking that they will become video models. Like i stated previously these are GROWN CONSENTING adults appearing in an uncut video geared towards an ADULT audience…if people don’t like it or don’t agree to it simply DON’T WATCH IT. I get tired of hip hop being the target for “degrading” women when America has demeaned and “degraded” women since the beginning…

first of all the girls in this video are dirty gutter ball trollops and i’ll tell u why..
1)they chose to be in the video
2)they chose to do and say the things they did in the video
3)they turned around and blamed their own choice on nelly
2nd of all these monkey doodle fools that are judging nelly need to sit down and i’ll tell u why
1) what are they doing being up @ 4am watching bet uncut
2)they sat their watched the whole entire video
3)Then they say this is a wrong message for young ladies
4) well if there parents werent so busy watching uncut @ 4 am to judge another man maybe their parents would be able to raise them instead of letting the tv and media do the raising
And as for nelly that fine piece of sexual chocolate yes he’s wrong for making that song but he isn’t any worse than hugh hefner having 3 girlfriends and owning a nude magazine then gettin praised with his own reality show about it all that comes on @ 9pm with re-runs that come on as early 12 noon when tip drill would come on @ 4am

I know these women have decided to do these videos so that’s thier choice, but why do rappers have to do these kinds of videos? They don’t have to do videos like this, if they didn’t they wouldn’t have to worry about people saying stuff. Rappers need to get creative and do something different. Anyone else agree? I’m sick of seeing the same old stuff…

Hmm… Ok, i personaly feel that though both parties are to blame.. Yes, Nelly and other rappers put women like these in videos and they sure do encourage these women to act the way they do in these videos. They put out adds looking for young women etc. BUT.. These women are all over a certain age where we start considering them adults, who if consenting.. are free to do as they please.
I do however believe that the way our black community is being portraid all around as a race where men are considered thugs and hoodlums and our women video vixens and ho’s that be clapping their asses etc. is wrong!
And believe me, cuz ive lived in holland for a great portion of my life and hiphop and being black are viewed as ONE, by most whites. And the image we are putting out there of our sons and daughters is one that realy makes me sad to view..
However i do have to commend artists like Common, talib kweli, lupe fiasco etc for trying to put a more positive image out there. Big ups..

first off i don’t see why he’s still defending himself years later over this. second no one forced these chicks to do this. he knew how he wanted the video to go and they were down for it. he didn’t degrade them, if anything they degraded themselves but they don’t see it as degrading they just see it as getting paid.
i don’t commend any of it. no it’s not a positive image but when money is involved like that it’s not really about a “positive” image unfortunately…..
nobody has to watch it and like others said earlier this video was only on uncut LATE at night. uncut didn’t even come on til midnight….
i just think it shouldn’t be brought up anymore. it’s over and done with

A must admit that I absolutley enjoy the video. Shyyyttt these women were all grown as hell and knew what “was up” when they agreed to do the video. They are all “professional” skrippers wit skills. I was very inspired to get up and practice my “skillz” in da mirror, rofl. My man luvs it and I enjoy keeping him entertained. And no, I don’t have 5 kids and no education. I have a Ph D and go to work every day in a very respected field. However, I do enjoy my “off time”. There is nothing wrong wth the video and it does not “exploit” women. Get over it and turn the channel.

^ WOW!!! to the above comment is all i can say!
But good for you & your new found booty flapping abilities.
My question now for you is, would you be comfortable shaking your bare naked behind on camera for the world to see? for kids to see? Underage kids actually do come accross these type of videos via TV or internet, whether or not the videos are aired during late night or during the “uncut” hours on BET; regardless of what you want to think kids have watched & eventually end up watching this mess. Videos like “tip drill” are not videos rappers should be promoting because there is NO good message that comes from flapping and shaking your behind PERIOD!
