August 10, 2008 LBS Alert: Isaac Hayes Dies At 65
Love muffins there is more sad news to report this weekend. An hour after he was found by a family member in Memphis, Isaac Hayes was pronounced dead.
With his muscular build, shiny head and sunglasses, Hayes cut a striking figure at a time when most of his contemporaries were sporting Afros. His music, which came to be known as urban-contemporary, paved the way for disco as well as romantic crooners like Barry White. Yahoo
Hayes was known to many for being the voice behind the 1971 movie Shaft, doing the theme song. Isaac just recently finished work on the movie Soul Men, that starred him along Bernie Mac, who passes away on Saturday. He was also know for his role as Chef on Comedy Central’s South Park. Isaac will be sorely missed as a pioneer for soul and funk music that shook the world. See him at his best while performing the Shaft theme.

I just heard this morning that he had a stroke a year or so ago, but he recovered from it. R.I.P. What’s even sadder is that none of the young artists in Memphis took advantage of the opportunity to learn from him and he was right in our backyard. His style left with him. Such a shame.
