August 9, 2008 McConaughey’s Garden Of Afterbirth!

Matthew McConaughey and girlfriend Camila August 9, 2008Love muffins I was truly taken a back when I saw that Matthew McConaughey kept his son’s placenta and is going to plant it in an orchard. He goes on to explain why it is that he wants to plant it.

“When I was in Australia, they had a placenta tree that was on the river … and all the placentas of all that tribe, all that clan, whatever aboriginal tribe that was, all the placentas went under that one tree and it was this huge behemoth of just health and strength. Yahoo

Well we use cow manure everyday to give us fruits and vegetables so maybe afterbirth isn’t too bad of an option. Thoughts?

  • Ewwwww I know its a cultural thing but still?

  • I actually met a guy from Africa and they have something similar. Instead of planting all the placentas under one tree, everyone gets their own when they are born and they plant their placenta under their tree. It’s their connection to the earth forever and from a very young age they’re taught how to care for the plant/tree so that it never dies (I’m of course not explaining it as good as he did). But it’s something that they take great pride in.

  • Thanks for that knowledge, Akesha. I learn something new everday!

I would do it if I were a parent. It’s something you can have forever to remember the day you brought your little bundle of joy into the world. I think it shows how proud he is to be a new dad.

  • I wanted to take my placenta after giving birth to my daughter to plant it. But the doctor told me I couldnt do that it has to stay in the hospital. Well some people eat there placenta for beautie and long life and I think that is nasty.

  • I think its a spiritual think as well as a cultural mindset. I wouldn’t do this myself, but what the hell, I am a dude so I don’t have to worry about that. Its quite an odd thing like Angelina Jolie’s blood locket thing. But, I have seen worse things like what another love muffin said above of the eating of the placenta (gross).
