As if Hollywood didn’t have enough new spots, there’s another one that’s sure to create even more traffic on the Boulevard and encourage long lines outside its door. Take a historic department store building turned trashy lingerie shop and renovate it, sprucing up its innate Art Deco vibe with the glitz and glam of the city, and you end up wit ‘The Kress’.

Still in its soft opening phase, ‘The Kress’ has pulled in much buzz after its first weekend open to the public – or at least those in the know. Boasting a multi-level venue with a large, alluring dining area, an upstairs sushi lounge and a 360 degree cabana covered rooftop overlooking Hollywood, the restaurant is more like a tower of entertainment than an eatery.

Oh, and did we forget to mention the nightclub on the lower level? Throughout dinner, the bumping bass from below is a constant reminder that people are throwing back specialty cocktails and dropping it to the floor while others are scraping their plates above. With a heavy sushi and Asian fusion menu, the food ranges from salt and pepper calamari and spicy tuna rolls to a chef’s tasting menu with short rib dumplings and bacon wrapped crab tempura. Crossing many countries and using eclectic ingredient combinations, the menu offers a bit of Indian, Japanese, Chinese and Thai all in one. Executive Chef Troy Thompson, best known for his menu at Jer-Ne in the Marina del Rey Ritz Carlton and David Burke in Vegas, combines various flavors, textures, temperatures and colors to create a colorful array of dishes.

This new food and drink playground will surely be a must-do for the Joneses…and everyone set on keeping up with them. Go for a cocktail, go for dinner or just go to get your people watch on because ‘The Kress’ is likely to remain a hot spot this summer!
