June 6, 2008 Homosexuality and Hip Hop!

Love muffins, as you download Lil Wayne’s new CD, check out Clay Cane talking with Danica Dow on SOHH.com regarding Terrance Dean’s book Hiding in Hip-Hop! In the interview hip-hop artists Young Berg, Nelly, and Chingy (to name a few) talk about their feelings on homosexuality. Take me higher lord! I have nothing else to say!

  • B, Clay Cane is not the author of Hiding In Hip Hop, Terrence Dean is.

  • it almost seems like nelly and david are mad about the book….hmmmmm…..

  • Is it just me, or did the interviewer NOT go to “hair and makeup?”

  • LMFAO @ msFAB!!! girl i was staring so hard at her broomstick-like edges like DAYUM!!! did she not consult anyone before getting on camera??!!
anywho, about the vid, i see two sides of it and i think people just have to mind their own business which is why i agree with that guy for not naming names HOWEVER i DON’T think he’s wrong for writing the book because i do think it needs to be known that this is going on. i mean, even B did a video on it about how he knows some people in hip hop are not as straight as they claim to be. and he didn’t name names but he did put it out there and i see nothing wrong with that. mainly because like young said, a lot of these guys have wives and girlfriends and families and while i do agree that outside forces not involved should keep on not being involved i think that it should be put out there for women to take a second look at their boyfriends or husbands because i feel SO bad for the women who may not even know. i think it would be hard to NOT know because even as “MANLY” as some men are, you can always detect that little undertone if they’re trying to hide something. you can’t hide who you are. for these hip hop artist who are already out there (career wise. not out the closet), yes i do think it might hurt their career if they all of a sudden came out of the closet because a lot of their songs are about women and their videos got naked broads walking around. lol! so then it’s like, everything you was rapping is a joke. it’s a lie. for an artist to come out and is letting it be known from the get go that they may swing that way, it wouldn’t hurt their career because we already know. i know i’ve been hearing so much about these artist being on the DL and if they choose to be gay then that’s fine but if you feel ashamed or just feel it’s no one’s business and that you need to cover it up, do it on your own rather than using a female as your cover-up. it’s your business if you’re dealing with it alone. you have every right to keep it that way but to bring an unsuspecting female into it is just wrong and you do owe her an explanation because you are looking at this woman in her eyes knowing she’s thinking one thing when you know the truth.

  • Yeah mrsFAB homegirl looks like she just rolled out of bed and didnt even comb her hair. Why was David Banner even on this video what has he done in the past teo years?

  • LOL @ riley!! i was wondering the same thing about david b. like WHY ARE YOU HERE?

  • LOL.. I just feel like he is concerned about the wives, and families that could be affected by this then he should have named names. Being that he didn’t I see it as another gay dude trying to pimp homosexuality. Any woman who is not aware of DL men at the point in the game has been living under a rock. They are alive and well in our churches, which you know, in sports, which you know, so why would that exclude Hip hop???? You have got to be kidding me if are finding this shocking. Women who buy this books are looking for more clues to put gay men in a box. you can’t… Plus these men are not Gay.. They are DL and probably better characterized as bisexuals. Why is it that the gay community has to be the ones that get the negative back lash from this mess

  • It was funny how he looked at the camera at the very end.

  • @ mrsFAB – LOL girl, I was thinking the same thing.

  • Nothing wrong with being gay and nothing wrong with being straight…everything wrong with being a ho stroller though.

  • Nothing wrong with being gay and nothing wrong with being straight…everything wrong with being a ho stroller though.

    I’m just sayin.

    NGBT!!

  • the entertainment industry is just that, ENTERTAINMENT. the public has no right to know what is going on in these people’s personal lives, but we are such a voyeuristic society that we want to know everything about the people that are in the public eye.

if an artist has a predominately minority fan base, them coming out as a homosexual WILL ruin their career, bottom line. their craft and the product that they produce has nothing to do with their sexuality. so what if they rap and/or sing about women…half of the work they produce is written by someone else anyway. so the persona that they produce is on the same level as mariah carey playing her character’s self as a 16 year old girl in ‘glitter’…ridiculous, false, and unrealistic.

Some of these rappers was trying really hard to convince the audience that they don’t like men….

    (0:16)…..

  • the FUNNY thing to me is that people act like females have this ANTI- being gay gene…..alot of these females out here (and TRUST ME i know, i live in ATL) are DL…they are extra feminine and you cant tell theyre gay until its too late. next thing you know u catch them getting they coochie ate by another female….

  • I diagree with Terrence Dean about the Gays in Hip Hop coming out, 1st of all, the people he named that have come out are white and there is a big difference between being white and gay and black and gay. I think the whites are a little more accepting than the black community and any rapper that came out as a male homosexual would be crucified. Now if a female came out, there might be some backlash, but I think it would be more accepted.

  • Watch out now…the gay Supahead is coming for that ass….what a lame… I really am starting to see that America is the land of oppertunity…cause ‘ol boy damn she is working his oppertunistic game.

  • ALL I GOT TO SAY IS STOP SNITCHING :) DONT ACT LIKE YOUR SHIT DONT STINK I FOR ONE THINK THAT ITS KINDA MESS UP FOR OLD BOY TO BE PUTTING PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT IS NOT OUT YET. IT HARD SOMETHIMES FOR PEOPLE COME OUT AND IF THAT THEIR HUSTLE TO SUPPORT THE FAM AND KIDS THEN SO BE IT. NO MAN IS NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING WITH ANOTHER MAN THAT HE DOESNT WANT TO. I AGREE WITH YOUNG BERG ON THIS ONE. WHY IS HOMEBOY COMMING OUT WITH THIS NOW? TO MAKE SOME MONEY AND START SOME DRAMA AND CAUSE SOME PROBLEMS. WHAT IS THAT GONNA DO FOR THE COMMUNITY AND FOR THE BLACK GAY COMMUNITY. THERE ARE OTHER WAYS TO DO THIS. WE KNOW THE MEN THAT ARE ON THE DOWN LOW. WE SEE THEM ALL THE TIMES BUT WHY OUT A MAN IF HE NOT READY? IT TOOK GEROGE MICHEALS A LONG LONG TIME TO FINALLY SAY HE WAS GAY. I JUST THINK PEOPLE NEED TO STOP SNITCHING AND MINE THRE OWN….

  • I agree with Marquest 100%. We pretty much have an idea of who is and who isn’t. He is not helping anyone with this book except for himself. Coming out is a very hard thing to do and being excepted can be even harder. If they aren’t talking then so be it. I guess though, if that’s his hustle. He is going to get paid because the title alone is an attention grabber. Do you. I just hope that he doesn’t go in to much detail of the rappers in question because it might not be pretty.

  • I TOTALLY agree with Marquest on this as well. Just mind ya own damn bizness…

and on my own note, dead at this fat faggot sayin he has been invited to all these “exclusive industry parties” and “knows” about this stuff…he just makin up some t cuz aint nobody wanna invite his dusty, gay ass nowhere. He tryna make them dollars cuz the life coaching business he was tryna pimp aint go nowhere (Yes Mr. Dean, I read up on u).

As a gay individual myself, I HATE HATE HATE when people put the spotlight on other people to try to get them to come out. It’s disrespectful. Everyone will at their own time when it’s necessary. Until then, people need to learn to butt out and keep their two cents to themselves.

    shiiiiiit….

  • I was giving the interviewer the *side eye of death* as well. Homegirl could have done better than that. Anyhoo, I don’t see the purpose of the book if he isn’t going to name names. Honestly, if I were to read it, that is what I would be looking for. I agree with some of the above comments…why write a book at all? Doesn’t he have anything else to do?? I mean, there are gay people everywhere, just like black people are everywhere. What is the point of describing a “subculture” in a book? I think we already know that there are down low individuals EVERYWHERE….not just in hip hop. I just don’t understand his reasoning….

  • There is nothing wrong being gay, straight or a bisexual. But I do have a problem when a brother or sister is on the DL it is wrong. each chance you take out there you bring a disease home to your partner or family and its not fair to your partner that you have lied to them about your sexual preffrence. You need to be honest with them so they can have that choice to be with you or not and that’s Why there are so many STDs within the black community. If there is a lot of presure on you coming out the closet do not put yourself in a relationship with another person to hurt them it is WRONG and selffish.

  • Gurlfriend looks as if she just got her vajayjay smoked, and ran in to do the interview! LOL!

  • I don’t think anyone needed a book to say there are DL dudes in Hip-Hop. Duh? We already kind of knew that. Although I do not agree at all with lying about who you are… I do however believe that we all have a right to privacy. I don’t think it was cool to write this book and definitely don’t believe this was the best way to encourage anyone to come out!

  • i dont know what the hell yall talkin about! being with the same sex is WRONG!!! if god wanted man and man to be togther, then why did he make women for? sex is for making babies and its a shame that yall think its ok!!! and having sex without being married is wrong too!

  • jryda4tic,

Please… grow up and don’t leave anymore immature comments like this.

  • how is that immature? lol!!! god said the same thing and died for your sins, so was he immature?

  • jryda4tlc everyone does not belive the same thing that you do and nor do we have to. This site is for people with open minds. You don’t have a right to preach to ANYONE! And since you study the bible you know the only judge is GOD, not YOU!!!

  • jryda4tic,

LOL… if you study your bible in depth, you would know that God never said that. Even more there is no record in the bible of Jesus addressing homosexuality. I doubt seriously that the savior who died for this world would approve in any way of your response on this website or that you are using his name to spread hatred… or have you not taken the time to read his instructions on love? With love and kindness have I drawn you? Love one another? Men will know that you are my disciples by the love that you show one to another? Any of that sound familiar? I should hope so since they all the words of the savior you claim to represent… go back and study, take some time to pray and learn more about the one true and living God and Savior that you speak of. Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needed not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth!

  • @ Soul Free: The bible does clearly address the subject of homosexuality and it clearly states that its WRONG! You sound contradictory….Rightly dividing the word of truth? You know your word, but you seem to not know what it means.

I pray that you learn more and study more…condoning homosexuality may make you feel better, but will it save you?

Awww….no! Get your priorities straight. Thanks!

  • Actually Rena, the bible doesn’t discuss two individuals of the same sex who are in a loving relationship. What you see in the levitical laws is the addressing of not participating in pagan prostitution rituals of temple worship for the gods Aphrodite and Diana. What Paul discusses in the new testament are again regarding prostitution and pedastry. Neither the old testament nor the new testament address two individuals of the same sex who happen to be in a loving relationship.

For the record there is no hebrew or greek word to describe two individuals of the same sex who are in a loving relationship. The word homosexual was not included in the bible until 1958 and was used in place of the word effiminent. Prostitution or Effiminent doesn’t anymore describe a loving relationship as does Davids affair with Bathshebda describe the proper way to court a future bride. Even more important than all of this JESUS CHRIST never once addressed the issue. I believe if it was so controversial then Jesus would have said something.

I have no intention in starting any agruements just wanting to post some facts. For the record I am saved, filled with the Holy Spirit and very proudly serving my savior daily!

  • @soulfree!

im not judging anyone so dont get mad over the truth!!! answer this, can love save you from going to hell? i never said i had a problem with gays, what they do in their privacy is their business but i dont agree with people protesting their sexuality just to get attention!!! its a sin, murder is a sin, stealing is a sin!!! who changed changed the rules? i dont believe god said he allowed gay sex did he? did god say gay was okay?

  • Yes, love can save me from going to hell. The love that Jesus had for me when he died on the cross was enough to save me from hell. There is no record of God saying that he didn’t allow same gender sexual expressions in a commited relationship. As far as I am concerned God is okay with Gay. I know this for a fact, because if he wasn’t okay with me then he wouldn’t have saved me or filled me with his holy spirit. Man judges the outer expressions and characteristics of a man, but God and only God judges a man by what is in his heart. He is GOD, and as he has said before He will have mercy on who he has mercy on. As for the rules… Jesus changed the rules when he removed the death penalty of the law and placed us under the new convenant in his blood.

Let it be known that God alone is the final authority on all things. Don’t speculate on what God has done and hasn’t done, because he is God and can do as he chooses.

Much love and big respect to you all!
