May 14, 2008 Fashion Focus: Remembering Aaliyah
Fadar Magazine has dedicated their June cover story to Aaliyah. This is a simply gorgeous picture of the R&B princess. The magazine includes more pictures, thoughts and commentary from people in the music industry on how Aaliyah changed the music game. Aaliyah was not only known for her music, but she was also known for her style. When she first debuted on the scene with her debut single “Back and Forth,” she had the tough/thug girl look. Wearing baggy pants, men’s fashion pieces, dark sunglasses and let’s not forget the wrap hair do (sistas you know what I’m talking about—don’t act like I was the only one who ran out and tried to cop the “Aaliyah” wrap style). As Aaliyah’s career evolved, so did her style. She transitioned her boyish style to a more sleek and sexy look–trading in the baggy jeans for form fitting tops, jeans and designer dresses for red carpet events.

I miss her so much. It’s nothing like putting on “One In A Million” and letting the bass knock. That’s classic. I love Aaliyah’s style and her soft and beautiful voice.

I remember when wore that long black skirt with the VERY deep splits on each side. I ran out and bought one ASAP! I thought I was the ish when I wore it to a Holiday party. I miss Ms. Dana as well.

man i remember when “Are You That Somebody” came out i think i was in the 8th grade and every girl i knew learned the dance and got up and did it every time it came on! My friends and i practiced it for hours……..Man she was a great performer..

I swear my wrap hairdo never came out as flawless as hers. LOL! She really did leave her mark on the music industry. I really do miss her.

It’s crazy to think we’re all reminiscing about what was. Aaliyah is still one of the best artists of all time in my book. She was a well rounded performer. I think we all are transported back in time when one of here classic songs come on, you remember where you were and what you were doing at that time. We still miss you Aaliyah!!!

She was the same age I was when she was killed (22 years old). She would have been the same age as me today (29) had she had the chance to cheat death. Unfortunately, things happened the way that they did. And I remember when certain haterz would get really jealous of her too. Sad, just sad. Its alright, because she has the last laugh in Heaven now.

I think that one of the people who was hurt the most from her death besides her parents and her brother, was Timbaland. They were very very close like brother and sister. Lets not forget Missy Elliot and Ginuwine too. All of them were close like fam.

I was a fan from the beginning, when she died, I cried, she was like a part of the family. Yes I am too sensitive, I could feel the pain in everyone’s voice who spoke of her, she was so young and her career was really taking off. Gone too soon

Everyone’s said what’s on my mind for the most part. Her fashion game was/is unparalled however. Sultry, but not sleezy. Not many women can pull that off. My sister still looks up to her. A great woman.
