Alicia Keys Dishes Conspiracy Theories

April 14, 2008

In the latest issue of Blender Magazine, Grammy Winner, Alicia Keys blames the US government for the deaths of rappers Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. In the interview, the singer opened up about her political views and conspiracy theories. Keys claimed that the US government invented ‘gangsta rap’ with a purpose. She said that the rappers’ slayings were fuelled by “the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing”. The 27-year-old singer also claimed that the ‘gangsta rap movement’ never existed, but was created “as a ploy to encourage black people to kill each other”. I just wanna thank Alicia Keys not only for making positive music but also for speaking her truth without fear. Double Kisses!

That is MY girl!! she is saying what everyone has been talking about, but since she is a star people will be more apt to listen to her. I just pray that they don’t start to harrass her.

Alicia Keys is a smart woman. Tupac said the media was making the thing between him and biggie bigger than it was. Tupac would have been a great voice for our community. Like Quincy said if Malcolm X would have died at 25 he would have been a hustler named Detroit Red, if Martin Luther King would have died at 25 he would have been a small town preacher, and if he would have died at 25 he would have been an unknown trumpet player. Now think if Tupac would have had the chance to live longer…

I agree with certain aspects of her opinion but at what point are we as a community going to stop blaming “the man” for our situation? Fair enough the gov’t is very capable of creating a ‘gangsta rap movement’ “as a ploy to encourage black people to kill each other”. BUT my point is when are we going to stop falling for the traps they set? When are we going to take responsibilty for the violence in our communities? The gov’t may set the trap but we walk into it like lambs to the slaugher house. And then blame someone else…I don’t get it.

On a side note: B Scott are you coming to Atlanta anytime soon? Maybe for the Pride Festival that we have every year? I know pinkberry is your thing but don’t you miss a nice plate of greens, some red beans & rice, maybe a cool glass of sun tea?? LOL

Alicia is a talented artist but I think it’s pretty safe to say that she is an idiot.

I first read about her interview with Blender from my fellow blogger Juan Perez over on Highbrid Nation. I couldnt beleive it. I had always thought she was smart. Little did I know. In reality she is a cross between a Black Panther and a retard.

…she still looks good though ;).

Yes. Blame the government. Blame the media. People never want to take responsibility for their actions. NOBODY forces you to do anything!

Alicia never said that. She said that the media fueled the situation by oversloganizing the word gangsta rap. The media overhyped this whole feud by basically pitting these two against eachother. She never said that the government invented gangsta rap so that black people could kill eachother. She never put all the blame on the government. She never said people promoting a gangsta lifestyle aren’t wrong. She just said the media played a big part in putting so much emphasis on gangsta rap, that it gave the black community a bad image, and ultimately helped fuel this feud and those assassinations, like a catalyst.

It’s the media. Things like Blender (media) twist up words to make it seem more radical. Anything to sell. Anything to break down someone positive, for their own profit. That’s basically what media is today.
