April 10, 2008 Katie Couric Says I Quit!
Update: According to Eonline.com, CBS denies that Katie will be breaking her contract before it expires in 2011. Katie is “working hard and having fun,” she said. “My colleagues continue to impress me with their commitment to the newscast, and I am very proud of the show we put on every day.”
According to the Wall Street Journal, Katie Couric is expected to leave her anchor job at CBS Evening News possibly as soon as the January 2009 presidential inauguration. Although her contracts runs until 2011, Katie wants out and so do the execs. at CBS The potential move comes as a result of continual low ratings for the nightly newscast, a high (estimated $15 million a year) salary for Katie and pressure at the network to slash costs and attract more viewers. This is horrible news because Katie is the first female evening news anchor ever and it’s sad to see things aren’t working out for her. Do you all enjoy Katie or are you glad her time is almost up? Thoughts?

I like her, and don’t think it was her fault that the ratings were low. I mean who watches the evening news anymore? Everyone I know watches CNN for up to date news coverage, or they use the internet. I just think the broadcast itself is to blame. Poor Katie.

Truthfully she should have never been given the position. She wasn’t that great in her original anchor position.

Keyshia, I am with you on this one! I can not stand Meredith on the Today Show. I watch it every morning and I am always complaining about Meredith! I wish they would fire her and bring Katie back to where she belongs. But I do like Kathy Lee on there now. If Katie does not come back, maybe they can stil fire Meredith and give her spot to Kathy lee!

She’ll be alright. $15 million per year plus since they want her out, they will have to pay her contract out, so I don’t feel so bad for her. Glad she’s not smiling like the Joker in that picture. Shit gives me the creeps when she does that.

I love Katie. I myself love her more on The Today show. Sorry to see her leave. I wish her best of luck in whatever she does from their. She will bounce back. Love you, Katie.

I am sad that things didn’t work out for her but I didn’t think she was the right woman for the anchor chair. Some people attribute it to sexism, but I never looked at it like that: she came from a morning show where she did a lot of fluff and entertainment pieces, so I think it would have been difficult to take her seriously as an evening anchor. My only hope is that her successor is also female and better suited for the position.

Katie Couric is a shallow, clueless twit who has no inetrest in serious news. She wants to talk about realty tv, fashion and gossip. Her disinterst and lack of intelligece are the reason the CBS news is failing. I do not think this would have been the prblem with Diane Sawyer or Elizabeth Vargas.

What is everybody lookin at, not because i like her,but if she wasn’t good i say so,
she was great on the Todayshow, and she is even better on Evening news,
this woman is natural.
