April 5, 2008 John McCain Gets Booed!
In an attempt to get the black vote Sen. John McCain campaigned in places Republicans often don’t go. On Friday, he spoke in Memphis to mark the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The video shows McCain apologizing for opposing a holiday for King with boos and interruptions from the audience. Do you think McCain did the right thing by saying he is sorry or did he get what he deserved?! Let me know!

Who wouldnt say that they were wrong after the fact? Honestly… you would be stupid if you decided to stand by a decision like that when you decide to run for President.

This was a VERY weak attempt on his and Hillary’s part to conjure up votes. I must ask how many times have you been here before this ELECTION year and how many times will you come back after?

I completely agree with ImJustTheMessenger. I’m from Memphis and we are VERY tough crowd to please. That was a dumb ass move. Especially, when the majority of blacks are mainly lower middle class/ lower middle class and I would highly that they will be supporting the Republican party any time soon since he can’t appeal to them.
Someone should have told him it wasn’t a good idea.

Got what he deserved… and having a black man hold that umbrella is not making the situation any better. Definately not a good look. SMH

he was in the wrong.
the only reason he mentioned giving a ‘no’ vote is because as a politician he knows that it would be eventually talked about through the media during his tour around the country to gain black votes. he’s basically trying to cover up a mistep in his past.
with this said, the man is obviously not intouch with america’s needs.
also, i hate to say it, but he is close to being senile. in the past he has had health issues, and i would rather just see him retire. damn.

kudos to him for the apology but we all know he only did it becasue of the presidency. he got what he desreved because when he had opposed it he knew exactly what DrKing stood for but yet was still against it. so what has changed now? he is nt stupid.
The funny part is how he tried to describe DrKings character to these people. Is he serious? they know more about DrKing than he ever will. Boy Boo!!

At least he showed up? Where was Obama and all of the other Black celebrities that should have been there. Where was Halle, Oprah, Will Smith, etc. etc. They all should have dropped whatever they were doing for this event. Without Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., they may not have had the chance to successes they are….

I’m also from Memphis, and I agree with Tutti about being a hard crowd to please. The Republican party in our city has never been one to support the interest of we the black community. It’s nteresting that McCain spoke at the Lorraine Motel, but this spiel about MLK is the only thing I’ve ever heard him mention about the black community…

@ mrsFab. Oprah has been to Memphis atleast twice in the last three years. There is a recent picture of her at the Civil Rights Museum. Many of the celebs tend to go to the museum during the big Freedom Ceremony in September/October.

I know that, I was there. But I was not speaking of past ceremonies, I was speaking of the anniversary/recommitment to the dream events of this past Friday. Yes, many celebs come. But this was a time when they REALLY should have shown up! If this were a red carpet event, they would have been there Friday.
