At The Bodega With Mrs. Beck!

March 28, 2008

Love muffins, it’s that time for another wonderful splendiferous super duper exciting read from Mrs. Beck!

The hibernation is coming to an end. As B would say, so splendiferous!

That means no more hiding behind black leggings, under jeans or thick tights. It’s time to prepare your hidden skin for more day-to-day exposure. This may very well be scary. No one is trying to look at a long set of scaly, pale, ashy and hairy legs. Oofah. I know all too well the drama that goes with looking down at a frightening milk white ankle. So sad.

Mere lotion cannot eradicate the winter dryness. I have to layer lotions with oils.

Have you tried Neutrogena Sesame Oil?

I discovered it by being good old fashioned nosy. I was looking through a friend’s medicine cabinet actually. I flipped the cap and the smell was just crazy delicious. Loved it. I brought it out of the bathroom and I was like, “What’s this!”

And she said, “You don’t know nothing about that…” and she jokingly snatched it out of my hands.

To read more……

I could tell that I stumbled upon a lifelong beauty secret that she wasn’t really trying to share which = gold.

Neutrogena Sesame Oil. WHOA. This stuff is superior.

Now, there are a couple ways to get it cracking – well, actually you wouldn’t be getting it cracking because the purpose of it is to alleviate the dryness, but you know what I mean.

You can run a hot bath and put it in the water. It’ll bead, just like baby oil and you can soak for a bit. I never take a bath though. I only shower. I get quite nervous about sitting around in my body dirt for an extended amount of time. Seriously, though. I don’t get it. So I’m soaking in the tub and then I’m supposed to splash my face with the same water molecules that have been floating around in all kind of other areas? Ass water on my face? No thanks. That’s just me though. You do you. Maybe there’s a system to it that I have yet to discover.

I do, however, take the shower and then right before I turn the water off, I apply the Neutrogena Sesame Oil all over, from the neck down. I get under the stream for a small moment to shut the water off and then I just lightly, gently towel dry. I pretty much stay damp and allow myself to air dry.

The oil should seep in nicely so that when you go to apply your lotion, it’s slick and easy.

This oil smells really lovely. Clean. I can’t really describe it. It’s not a spa eucalyptus-y smell. It’s just a clean, light and pretty smell. Original and it layers quite nicely with perfumes.

For even more moisturizing powers, I like to apply my lotion and then do another thin layer of the oil on my arms, focusing on the elbows. My feet, focusing on the webbing of the toes and the heel. And, of course, the legs if I’m wearing a dress. I like it to look wet so that by the time I get to where I’m going, I am super glossy and I’ve given the oil a chance to absorb.

Now, let’s talk about the price. At the regular drug store, it’s going to run you between $10 and $15 for a bottle which is a bit steep for the bodega, I know. But it will last forever and it will be worth it. Or, you can go to Costco and pay the extra money for the gigantic bottle and split it up into smaller bottles which will last until the apocalypse comes.

Finally, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention this as a precautionary measure. The oil does get super slippery, like slick. Sliiiiip, slip and slide type of slick. So hang on to the bath rail for sure!

Happy moisturizing.

I’ll have to try this out soon. Personally I’m in love with baby oil gel after a shower in the warmer seasons. Makes me look like a video vixen/stripper all glossy.

LOVE the blend of Princess Melissa and B Scott! Great feature and thanks for the detailed tips on the Neutrogena! Been using it forever but now I feel like I’ve given the “real” directions.

    THANKS MELISSA

I have been rockin this same theory with the Palmers Cocoa Butter OIL for years, not just the cocoa butter, but the liquid oil. All that shower “timing” with the water and such aint necessary. All you do is PAT dry, you know, leave a little “shower dew” on your body, then rub it all over. It seeps into your skin pretty quickly and it DOESN’T stain your clothes. Also, another reason to not use this in the bath is because it will make your tub really oily and therefore dirty quickly, so I try not to use it until I step out of the shower. Oh, and the cocoa butter oil is much much cheaper, maybe $6-$8 a bottle.

Great post! It really turned me on to Neutrogena, I have never tried any of their products. But I am going to try this Sesame Oil and and few of their facial products as well - i took their evaluation test on their site lol.

Been there. Done that. You guys should really go to princessmelissa.com and read her old blogs. She gave this tip there. I ran out and got it as soon as I read it. It does smell great. My husband even uses it…cause a brother can get ashy too. And it doesn’t smell like a woman, just clean, so he doesn’t feel like he’s using one of “my” products. Little does he know it was a melissa tip. Or her friend, but whatever! Thanks!

I have been using the Neutrogena oil for years and have loved it for years too. I just discovered that Walmart has their own version that feels and smells the same for about half the price.

I love nutrogena oil , but that stuff is really expensive. I know I’m ghetto but a few years back I used to get if from the local crack head boaster, who would steall it from the local rite aid or cvs sell it to me for two for 10.00- but for some reason now I can’t bring myself to pay 10 or 11 dollors for one. But reading this is making me miss my sesame oil, i might just go and buy it or try to find that booster, lol just kidding - ya’ll have to admit I had a good thing going while it lasted
