i saw this a year ago with friends, and it was pure comedy. It’s something you’d see on Madtv. We were laughing so hard. He even has charts and is “educating” us.

There is not a difference between “nigger” and “nigga”. There are still ignorant and uneducated people in this world and as a black community we have to stand as one and defend our morals. This isn’t funny, the Boondocks episode wasn’t funny, this is a hurtful, negative, and cruel thing to say; especially as a teacher.

This is shameful. He not only needs diversity training, but he also needs to get some good old fashioned COMMON SENSE. I do not believe that a man his age did not know that he should not be saying this to a student. I am tired of hearing people like Dog the Bounty Hunter and others use the lame excuse that they thought it was okay because they hear blacks say it. It is never okay.

I feel it doesn’t matter who you are, NO ONE should be using that word in any of its forms. We, as Black people, especially need to stop using it. What kind of example are we for everyone else if we continue to use it?

yeah the boondocks did there version of this but it is too much…if he been teaching at that school for all those years, he should have the knowledge not to use that word no matter if it ends with -er or an -a it still want make the situation of the matter fine. Well thats all I have to say to that..yupp =]]

Oh my B. Scott. You’ve really done it. I am dying over here. When Mr. Dawson sat there and started using it. “Ni**a this, ni**a that. Can a ni**a borrow a pencil?” he had me in stitches at the fact that he’s a nigger – cause that is total ignorance if he thinks what he said is acceptable. This man is a “monkey doodle fool!”

Personally for me, I don’t like the word wither way. Dropping the -er and replacing it with an a doesn’t make to word less ignorant. I hate that word. I don’t care who says it. Black, white, hispanic, whoever.

I’m black and its very hypocritical. If blacks can say it casually, then everyone can. If its wrong for certain people to say it, no one should say it.

I had to address this because this is really annoying the hell out of me. People are so quick to get upset over the usage of language when there is never an open forum to discuss the words with blacks and whites. This teacher is obviously incompetent in that he does not know the historical meaning behind both words. People are so quick to get so upset about things that they don’t understand instead of coming up with solutions on how to resolve the issue.

There are so many ways to look at this incident…i mean the word itself should never be used….but people use it , and that will never change…….nigga! i see he was tryin to be funny….and he obviously teaches with many black students…and when he mocked it….tell me u couldnt see hsi students sayin it….it was poor judgement…but whites are put in this situation so often…and its just a touchy subject…so in order to eliminate the problem, dont present one….dont use the word white folks…and latins…and asians….just dont…we as black folks shouldnt be using it…but if anybody gonna use it…it will be us….okay!

I dont understand why black people use the word. I mean if its such a bad word and makes you soo mad then WHY DO U USE IT!!!!! it makes me aggrivated. The word doesnt seem like it means so much because black people use the word after every sentance. Im hispanic and im around black people so much that the word is locked nside my head. all my black friends say the word peobblyy once every 10 minutes and i get used to it. they shud stop complaining and do something. make black people stop saying it.. i bet you if no black people sed it, then it would cut other races saying it by 98%.

first, this is my city. i get angry when i see things like this – i am caucasian but i am referred to as a ‘n***a’ by some of my african american peers because i have been accepted as ‘one of their own.’ i, however, do not agree with the blatent use of the n word. it is, just a word, but with so many negative feelings behind it. i don’t think he should lose his job, nor do i think that diversity training is necessary. he was trying to make a point – however silly and far-fetched. why is it ok for african american individuals to use a twisted version of such a negative word?

Wow, everyone this is just like a recent episode of The Boondocks. The only difference is this kid seems like he’s alot more accomplished than Riley (who uses the word all the time. In my opinon, the Civil Rights movement really took the sting out of that word. You can call me a nigger/nigga all day long. I can vote, and you cannot legally discriminate against me. Here’s the link to a clip from The Boondocks episode, you have to watch it!!!!!

I honestly think, that just like Riley’s teacher, this guy isn’t being Malicious, he’s just stupid. The meaning of that word has really changed. Because (if you still consider us niggers) you have to associte that word with highly succesfull people. I think that’s why it’s losing its sting. Blacks go to college, have sucessfull careers, and do everything everyone else does. You can’t associate nigger with old stereotypes anymore. Well you could, but that would be stupid.

I feel bad for the teacher. I think he just wanted to use “cool kid” words, but ended up in a huge mess. He shouldn’t have said it, but we do know that black people use the term a lot with eachother (mostly in schools). So I feel bad, but he should have told them not to use the word, instead of using it himself. Educating them was his job.

After watching the video, I must say that I agree with alot of what he said. I am an African American/Black person. I don’t think he was right in using the word the way he did, since there is no proof that the young man used it first. But that’s what black people get for using that word, thinking that it give us some type of power. The word (both of them) needs to stop being used. It defines the person who uses it without them even knowing. I have an 18 year old son (fully African American/Black) who has NEVER used that word. He will use dude or “this guy”. He knows how ignorant someone sounds when they use it. Clearly this teacher was wrong, but at the same time we are wrong also. We have given that word so much power….when it doesn’t have any.

i think the only person we can control is ourselves. if you don’t want the n-word to be used then don’t use it. it’s not a matter of why black people use the word so much and why white people aren’t allowed to use it. simply put, just control what comes out of your mouth because you could unintentially offend someone and there is no one to blame but yourself. the english teacher is paid to teach the fundamentals of english, i think it would have been better if he had engaged the class on the context of the word as well as notifying parents that the word would be discussed in a historical context as well as how the word is used in the current environment and if other students in the class find the term offensive. since he stated he had such a distaste for the word, although he used it repeatedly. because if he would have told me to sit down n*****, i would have took that as fighting words and popped him in his mouth. based on the context of the sentence and the tone of his voice, not the color of his skin. i think this teacher is just using any excuse he can to retire early since he has been at the school for two decades. i’m bored with this.

I think thats disgusting… He just kept saying it over and over again. Theres no remorse there because he knows he’s gonna keep his job. The teacher needs some EDUCATION. AND he had the audacity to write it out in two different ways and show it to the world like hes somekind of clever individual!..If anything teacher should be educators and in some ways leaders. His lack of intelligence is dangerous and not overly shocking. Ignorance breeds ignorance, the worst thing is he could have had some white kid in the class thats taken that on and is gonna be equally as stupid or even worse.
Clever how the station decided to use a black correspondent on the story…creare some extra angle i’m sure. Its all pathetic.

people should stop using the word altogether, its ignorant and derogatory. its not like us gay men walk around saying things like “hey whats up my faggot?” because well, thats just not necessary. even though some of us totally embrace our “faggotry”, we dont need to refer to each other in a demeaning why.

sugarfoot, I2I. I must admit when I saw the boondocks episode I didn’t know it was an actual story. Personally I found the clip hilarious especially when he said he says the n-word with an H to emphasize the difference in the two words. His breakdown of the two words sounds just as stupid as when blacks folks say using the -ga ending makes the word positive. Bullish no one should used the word period.

I THINK THIS IS JUST STUPID Sorry but I do.the “N word” needs to be put to death although in reality it will never be but I’d like to see it not used as an expression of “dude” or “friend”….
You don’t see some people going around saying “cracker” or “cracka” do we? NO we don’t and I think its foolishness to be the only race that turns a word that was AGAINST our race as a term of slang.Being a Black American myself, I don’t like to say it nor use it at all ER or GA its still the same word to me.

I’m amazed at the outcry over this word. Black folks use this word just as the teacher explained it, day in & day out. Why get upset? Why give such a stupid word so much power? The word means nothing more to me than the word “rock”. He simply used it as his students. Do we as black folks “own” that word and forbid others to use it? Pluuueeeaze! If we use it so loosely why can’t others? I’m at a loss. Humor me and help me figure this argument out!

The ‘N’ word should be sticken from the English language. It should be removed from the dictionary and banished. The word has a violent and oppressive history to say the least. The ‘N’ word has been bastardized by young people and it leaves people like that teacher confused on exactly who can use it and what it means.
We need to start a campaign to banish officially banish the ‘N’ word.

There is no difference in the words this “teacher” has shown. It is a shame that this man and others do no realize that this word continues to cause pain in the lives and hearts of African Americans. What is really shameful is that we use the word freely and in order to stop the use of this word from others, we must first stop ourselves. By no means does this excuse this man’s ignorance. I agree that he should lose his job, not because of the use of the word but because he was stupid enough to say it.

To the person that said that this student must have used the word before or that the student also must listen to music like that…why would you think that? I know many children that don’t use that word nor do they listen to music or watch shows which may use words such as that. Most of it is due to their parents but a lot of them too have made a personal choice not to engage in that type of ignorance. My parents didn’t raise me to be called anything but my name and the last word they would want me to answer to is that one. So, I think that this could have happened exactly as the student said, but there are always two sides to every story —but the kid seems to have a whole classroom of his peers (albeit they may not like the teacher) supporting him.

I am so damn sick of this N-Word crap! First of all it is inappropriate for any race to use it, but some of us use all day everyday. Why do you get offended when another race says it? You say it in a record, but you expect them to buy it and not repeat the words? You say it with a smile on your face and in a joking manner to each other? So for people that are trying to be in the lingo or cool or what have you don’t feel that they are doing anything wrong. We(some) call are selves bitches, niggas, hoes, chickens, ect. I don’t see any of us getting fired, suspended, or put on blast on the news. If you are offended like OSTHU said, get over it if you call yourself one.

A prime example of how ignorance works both ways. It’s derogatory for anyone to use it, but even more when we try to switch it up and try to make it “hip”. That’s like putting deordorant on top of funk, like that’s really going to make a friggin difference.

I don’t think the teacher had any malice when he was saying it. On the train in NY these young boys use nigga as every other word in their sentences. I often wince when I am on the train and white people are on the train and they listen to young men talking like this to each other. The teacher probably just thought that was the new hip thing to do u can tell that teacher is just a corn ball and just does things for shock value

Being black, I find the word disrespectful. I don’t think that the teacher was saying it to be intentionally disrespectful. When he was just throwing it around, I couldn’t stop laughing becuz I can tell he wasn’t aware of the disrespect behind it. But many blacks are not aware of the disrespect behind it. He was operating on if they say it all the time, I can say it too. But as a teacher he should know better. I wouldn’t fire him I would school him.

I know there is the whole issue with the double standard with the n-word, but frankly, I think that everybody other than black people should know not to use the word and that it is degrading, no matter how much black people like to degrade themselves. Yes, its just a word, but we are not ignorant and we know that some words are bad and some are good. Let this one be, maybe you’ll be able to keep your job…

This was funny as hell and the teacher is correct they are two different words and have two different meanings. I believe that the student did say that toward the teacher and the fellow students are just sticking up for him to see something happen to the teacher. Now, don’t get me wrong neither should have said it but it was funny. I love the part when the teacher said “Can you lend a nigga a pencil.

Okay..coincidentally I just saw the Boondocks episode based on this story last night. After watching this clip with the real teacher, I couldn’t help thinking the same thing I thought when I saw the cartoon; you KNOW that boy said that $hit! And his classmates had his back because none of them like this dude. They probably couldn’t stand his a$$ from day 1. On the other hand, that doesn’t make it right for the teacher to say it at all.

1) the mere fact that people are laughing at this shows just how desensitize we are to the n-word, not matter if it ends in an ‘a’, ‘ah’, ‘er’ or has a silent ‘p’, as uncle ruckus so eloquently put it. the word just needs to go away and not be used by anyone. it’s derogatory. period. if that teacher would’ve said a derogatory word towards an asian, hispanic, jewish, or homosexual student it would’ve been the same story….if not worse/more publicized.
2) am i the only who caught that they used the african-american reporter to give us the run down on the story?! hmmm…….
3) i will admit, i LOST it when dude put up those two sheets of printing paper with the two variations of the n-word written on the front; as if that was to further validate his side of the story. dead.
