So, this is list for U.S female artists, right??

This sounds stupid, but i’m not sure how much I believe it…

Madonna - from Back catalogue, last years tour and the record deal, yeah, fair enough…

Barbra - that much from the tour???

Celine - Her last installment of vegas plus album sales woulda got her this.

    Shakira - WTF

Bee - I actually woulda thought it more considering her tour and that she’s sold herself to the world and it’s sister.

    Christina Aguilera - How????

Mariah - If this is just catalogue and basic sales of ‘M’ , that’s pretty impressive.

    HIlary Duff - forreals?

Where’s Miley Cirus in this??? Surely she should be there??
And what about Amy? “Back to Black” U.S sales (considering she writes and co produces all her own stuff) should have put her on the bottom of that list???

I think the only people on that list that didn’t have any concert dates last year was Britney Spears, Sheryl Crow and Mariah… Still cool number - Forbes list are cool, but they don’t include the deductions such as agent fees, lawyer fees and such.

Go on Mariah for not even having an album out but still making the top 10. And Beyonce?! With all that hustling she does you would think she would be in the top 3! Oh well.

don’t know WHY Hiliary Duff is on the list.. that’s very unsettling.

I call bullshit on this list… it doesn’t make sense.

Take Mariah Carey vs. Britney Spears for example.

Mariah, who is listed as making $13million, hasn’t released an album for 3 years but that doesn’t mean she’s not gonna rake it in.

In 2007, Mariah sold 353,281 albums in the United States alone.
With the exception of covers, and “When you Believe”, she’s written, co-produced and owns the publishing rights to every song she’s released or recorded.
We know for a fact that Britney earns around $700k a month from royalties. So if Mariah Carey, who has to her name an 18 year back catalogue, 17 No.1 singles which still garner good rotation (aswell as the biggest radio hit of all time) and the sales of 350k in physical albums a year, we can safely guesstimate she earns a hell of alot more than Britney does per month.

On top of this, she had a monster hit both ends of the year with “All I Want For Christmas Is You”. The track went to No.1 on many download and official download charts in the U.S, re-entered the top 10 worldwide and topped the download charts internationally aswell as being a HUGE radio hit worldwide.
Finally, she released a top selling fragrance in 2007.

As mentioned, we know Britneys royalties make her around $700k a month. On top of this, “Blackout” has sold 743′000 copies to date. She also has her successful fragrance which, I believe, figures for were included in the monthly $700k.

So, how does it work out that last year Britney earned just $8million and Mariah just $5millon more than that?

I’m not saying Mariah or Britney should be placed higher or lower on the tally, this isn’t about a “diva pride issue”, it’s simply that it really doesn’t make sense statistically when we look at not only what each artist has achieved in the last year, but in the long run of their career with regards to Royalties etc and with solid facts to back up the info….

    anyone else agree?

    Madonna Yes I believe that

  13. tbsecrets on January 29, 2008 at 9:43 pm #

They didnt include all of Beyonce tour dates..this list ends in June or July of 2007. Beyonce had 50 more dates later august/september/october through november…Beyonce still did alright. top 5 is hot though.

BEyonce girl after all of the hair flings falls booty shaking screaming and body getting you only got 23 million hmmmm I think you didnt get whats rightfully yours. Especially since Tiger Woods banked an estimated 112 MILLION DOLLARS in 2007 to play golf.

  17. Mark on January 30, 2008 at 12:20 am #

Ha-Ha……this list is bunk. I don’t care if it is Forbes. One Black, one Latina….ha, ha what a joke.

  18. PJW on January 30, 2008 at 5:07 am #

Uh, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Nelly Furtado and even Christina Aguilera are all of latin origin.

Norah Jones is half Bengali Indian (her name, before changing it, was Geethali).

And Beyonce is black and Mariah is half black.

Don’t make an issue out of something that’s not an issue and don’t judge books by their covers.

  24. TomUK on January 31, 2008 at 6:11 am #

Of course Shakira is up there, she is more famous internationally that Britney Spears and is one of the few artists that can manage a proper world tour, not just a few countries…

The difference with Shakira is that she manages to get in the top 4 without charging hundreds of pounds for a ticket ;)

    Nice work!
