January 25, 2008 Work Your Weekend!

1. Drink This! “The Portuguese Mojito”
grapejuice.jpg

We just can’t get enough mojitos! And Asia de Cuba at Mondrian LA serves one that will floor you, so we figured this would be the best time to give you an idea just how splendiferous this twist on an old classic can be.

1/2 lime, muddled
1 packet of sugar
4-5 mint leaves, muddled
1.5 oz. Stoli vanilla
3 oz. soda
.25 oz. port wine reduction

Combine all ingredients and shake in a highball glass. Garnish with a mint leaf and Concord grape.

2. Watch This! “Be Kind, Rewind”

Jack Black is back with his newest film from French director Michel Gondry (think back to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). Starring as a regular Joe Schmoe with a magnetized brain, Black’s character ruins every single videotape in his friend’s—played by Mos Def—rental store. To keep the store’s best patron happy, they set out to remake every classic movie imaginable with the help of their neighborhood. It’s a mix of hilarity, sentimentality and fantasy!

3. Wear This! “Rainboots!
multiple-designer-wellies.gif

It’s a rainy week in Los Angeles, and all we can think about is keeping warm and staying dry. You should just use this as an excuse to get you a pair of rainboots for the season—or wellies as we’re told they are called. Everyone from Pucci and Burberry to J. Crew and Roxy have a line to showcase, so you’ll easily find one that suits your style and your budget.

4. Hear This! Adele London’s “Chasing Pavement”

Now that Amy Winehouse is officially off her rocker, here’s another British singer/songwriter who may rise in Winehouse’s shadow. One of our love muffins suggested we give the rest of you a taste of Adele London, so here’s her single “Chasing Pavement”. It’s obvious that she’s been influenced by a classical combination of soul, blues and jazz, and the comparisons to Winehouse are valid. But it’s clear she’s her own kind of shining star, evidenced by her shows with Paul McCartney and Bjork. Not to mention her own sold out shows. Go HERE for more on Adele!

5. Do This! “dineLA Restaurant Week”

LA’s restaurant scene is definitely one of the most eclectic and innovative ones around. If you have a list of eateries you’ve wanted to check out, take the opportunity to do it now that dineLA’s Restaurant Week is here. From January 27-February 1 and February 3-February 8, you can try a variety of prix fixe menus with lunch prices set at $15 and $22 and dinner prices set at $25 and $34 at some of the city’s most popular restaurants. If you’re a foodie who can’t pass up a unique culinary experience (at almost half the price), this is your chance to taste the city. Go HERE for more information and a list of restaurants. Lovebscott.com will explore the plates offered at Asia de Cuba this weekend, and we’ll bring you the dish next week!
