January 17, 2008 AP Already Written Britney’s Obituary!

UsMagazine.com has found out that the Associated Press has already started writing Britney Spears’ obituary.
“We are not wishing it, but if Britney passed away, it’s easily one of the biggest stories in a long time,” AP entertainment editor Jesse Washington tells Us.
“I think one would agree that Britney seems at risk right now,” Washington adds. “Of course, we would never wish any type of misfortune on anybody and hope that we would never have to use it until 50 years from now…but if something were to happen, we would have to be prepared.”
Washington also says the AP has a “pretty extensive obituary operation,” and that staffers are “constantly adding people,”
I’m not sure how I feel about this, love muffins. I suppose when it comes down to it, an obituary is merely a form of a biography, so it makes sense to have these on file, however, actually classifying it as part of an obituary for a person who is still living and in no imminent grave danger seems very morbid to me. Thoughts, love muffins?

I think it sucks. That is like having a headstone with your name on it before you die. Never. This should never happen.

This goes to prove the ruthlessness of the media. They exploit people that are ‘at risk’, then they prepare obituaries, for them? There is no excuse in the world for that. That is sadistic and unproductive. Am I to understand that as the AP destroys the lives of ‘at risk’ celebrities by publishing their every exploit they are also salivating at the chops waiting for the person to die? They may be the most powerful media outlet in the world, but they are certainly morally bankrupt.
I am disgusted.

They do it for everybody famous. You don’t want to write an important obit last minute and risk screwing it up. That said, the fact that AP is talking to US about it as if it’s an anomaly? That’s kind of weird.

I have a friend who worked for CNN years ago. She said they do that often for celebrities–they oull info and clips that they would have go in the reflective tribute piece that airs after someone’s death. Like, they started Oprah’s & certain elected officials’ years ago and they just update. she said this after Anna Nicole died and I commented how it was weird that all media outlets had their special programming done and in heavy rotation so quickly….

Its all really morbid. It kind of reminds me of being in college in the early 90s and one of my friends in the honor guard was “practicing” for Ronald Regan’s death. And he was still VERY VERY alive.
Its all really crazy but not unbelivable. And of course wrong. I hate to bring up our friend Karma again, but I don’t believe that you really live a great life “writing death” for a very alive albiet troubled person. Sorry.

Yeah I heard that it’s done on regular basis for celebs, but the fact that they’re publicizing it is what makes it so assholish. It’s extremely insensitive.

I’m just saying….she brought this on herself. I don’t get why she won’t just seek refuge on her property. She purposely brings attention to herself and she deserves the crap she is getting. I mean really, case and point, why are you and some photographer going to purchase a pregnancy test when you know the ‘razzis are going to be watching. She wants the attention.

KR, I don’t think people really truly understand what it is like to be mentally ill if they aren’t touched by it in some capacity in their own lives. Britney’s behavior is a direct result of being mentally ill, which is to say that she really just can’t help it. You have to be of sound mind to make logical decisions. How can she do that?
Of course, this is all assuming she is REALLY mentally ill, but I do believe she is.

i have to agree. that is effed up. the girl isn’t dead yet . yeah she’s got her issues and yeah she brought most of the stuff that she is going to on herself , but is it right to do her like this ?

I hear ya DeeDee but she knows she needs help and usually people are committed if they are mentally ill. I just don’t see why she keeps going back to the source of her problem. It’s almost like she is addicted to it now. Most mentally ill people seek refuge and are paranoid. I think this is all an act. How do you go from wanting to kill yourself or harm your children to being released in less than 48 hours? She is not mentally ill because if she were then she would still be in the hospital. She is just a plain ole attention addict. Think back to the days prior to the children. Getting hitched on a whim and having a mother who sales her children to the highest bidder.
Sadly, I think if people stopped caring she would kill herself.

Yeah, that’s a bit sick to call something that tragic into life. I’m from the old school where there are some things that you just don’t dare say. I understand freedom of the press or whatever but that’s sick.

This is just crazy. Too many people are focused on Britney’s death, a person who is still alive. WOW
