    People have the tendency to compare anything and everything these days.
    I’m by no means a fan of Janets cover but what’s the similarity? A) it’s black and white and B) their arms are crossed. The similarites end there. I think it’s neither a knock-off nor a coincidence, just a standard picture.
    Madonna was neither the first person to be shot in black and white nor the first woman to be shot with her arms folded across her (especially not when compared to Janet!)

    pure coincidence I believe, they’re both too dang up there to have to copy! I love them both to death and am excited about both of their albums. and no matter how folks try hating on their age, they are both still hot as hell!

    I agree with PJW, there’s only 2 similarities but when you look closely there’s truly only 1 (the pic is black and white). Madonna’s holding her boobs, Janet has on gloves with her name and her album title on them………she’s not holding her boobs she advertising.

    Like Stacy said either way they’re both hot!!

    Sorry guys, but there is more than one similarity between these two shots. For me it’s also the styling. from the hair to the rope around their bodies, the shots are more similar to dissimilar. I love both Janet and Madonna (to be honest, I loves me some Madge way much more), but it would seem logical to me that you would look back at Madonna if you are injecting some S&M into your entertainment project, either for inspiration or to avoid coincidences such as this. I personally think that the art director did look to this picture for inspiration, and didn’t take it to far.

    Ok now this is sickening! since Janet’s new material has dropped people have constantly been comparing her shit to others…saying Feedback sounds like a Britney track from Blackout when CLEARLY Darkchild’s SIGNATURE sound was all over it, that song sounded nothing like Gimme More, etc. Now this…Janet is SO NOT thinking about some damn Madonna, let alone copying her damn style…they dont even fucking like each other! NO I do not think its a knock off. Janet has NEVER bitten anyone’s style.

    Are you serious? I took a picture like that at a party a few months ago. So if I have it developed in black and white, did I copy Madonna too? I am actually a really big fan of Madonna – maybe even more so than Janet but to say that Janet INTENTIONALLY styled this photo from Madonna’s is a stretch. I can think of a lot of unoriginal, swagger jackin’ folks out there today. Janet is not one of them…

    well i am a BIG janet fan and madonnas cool too.. both of these women have taken millions of pictures so of course theres gonna be similarities, you can only take so many different pictures, however janet was covering her boobs in black n white photos back in 96 (?) when the janet album came out so? what can you do?

    actually, i think madonna’s kinding of biting Janet’s famed photo from her ‘Janet’ album days. Eventhough Madonna is cluthing the breasts on the solo tip with no Rene Elizondo (or Guy Ritchie in her case) behind her..that’s the first thing that came to mindwhen I saw Madonna’s cover

    I think that Maddonna was inspired by this 1993 cover of Miss Janet. Madge is just cupping her own puppies.

    Sugarfoot beat me too it. If anything, Madonna’s pic look more like the JANET album cover, except Janet’s tetas are being held by rene. Beyond that it’s a very common pose (arms crossed. Thats the pose….styling is SOMEWHAT similar with the hair and the strings around the waist….but I’m sure Janet was not thinking about Madonna when she took that picture.

    But this is not the first time that Janet has been seen in some kind of S&M photos. If you look at her promo and album pics from The Velvet Rope in 1997 (http://janet-xone.com/gallery/1997.html), you’ll see what I’m talking about. So did she “steal” the “fetish picture” idea from Madonna? Oh please! Fetishism, S&M, etc. did not start with Madonna… Let it go…

    I think it could have been an influence. Still, not feeling it though. But, i think they are both GREAT artist and should never stop. It’s really sad how many people attack them for their age! They are much better than any pop artist right now!!

    On a side note about the 1993 Janet Rolling Stone. Madonna was the first pop artist to use her sexuality as art way back in 1990 and from her sex book in 1992 (plenty of peeps covering Mo’s boobies in that book LOL)

    art directors, photographers copy… intentionally and not. artist rarely, if EVER, see the inspiration for the photo– merely a mock up for what the photog is going for.

    Of course she ripped the look from madonna, its all calculated people, its not just oh let me pick such and such they know exactly what they’re doing. But it’s not such a big deal in my eyes because Madonna pulls that kind of stunt all the time borrowing inspirations from others…

    ni madonna fue la primera en usar blanco y negroo ni la primera en taparse las tetas en una fotografia.
    mas bien janet lanzo ala fama el blanco y negfro en sus primero videos en los 80’s y su portada en la rolling stone que es hasta la fexha la portada mas emblematica de la revista;
    y la verdad amo a las dos divas pero aceptemoslo mientras una es una seximbol la otra es una gran puta y sabes ke st ultimo se lo dedico a madonna
