January 15, 2008 Oprah Buys Her Own Television Network!
If having her own talk show, radio show, part owner of Oxygen, and changing lives over in Africa for thousands of people wasn’t enough… Oprah has gone and bought her own Television Network! OWN — for Oprah Winfrey Network — will debut next year in nearly 70 million homes with cable and satellite, part of a deal announced Tuesday with Discovery Communications. It will replace the Discovery Health network. The announcement builds a media empire that already includes the top-rated TV talk show, a magazine, a satellite radio network, a Web site, and TV movies made under her banner.
“This is an evolution of what I’ve been able to do every day,” Winfrey said. “I will now have the opportunity to do this 24 hours a day on a platform that goes on forever.”

i tried to post a moment ago, and not sure what went wrong so trying again. i think this is great. i am sure some negative comments will be posted, but i want to be the first to post a positive one. i think that we really need to support any black positive progress in that ruthless industry. i know of what i speak here— worked in the indi for 20 years. this is historical and that alone should be recognized and commended! much better than what bob johnson of BET could ever do. it is a fine example of how doors will open for the black community. also, i really like your site bscott– u are mesmerizing to look at, and i am a heterosexual woman! double kisses– a love muffin that wishes you the very best. p.s. just be prepared for the dark side on embarking into the entertaiment arena– it can sometimes make you feel that you are bartering your soul– i have travelled that road so i know of what i speak. i gave it all up to live abroad because there is more dark than light!

Too much Oprah? When Barbara Walters started the view, was on 20/20 and doing tons of specials no one ever asked that question. But since Oprah is truly the Queen of all Media people are asking this question. For Oprah to be a black woman yes this is too much for America to take, but she’s still going to do it. Oprah is great, and why wouldn’t you want to continue to grow? Oprah’s a business and when a great opportunity arises she goes for it. This is not only great for Oprah but great for all the people and organizations that she reaches out. This is good for all of us.

Oprah Winfrey is not only a media mogul but she is an American treasure. This network will allow her to enjoy the fruits of her labor more as she winds down her daily talk show, while still keeping us on our toes to collect our greater good! Love you O!
