December 25, 2007
Merry Christmas love muffins! In honor of the peaceful Christmas holiday we are enjoying, I have decided to start a diva battle with these three different renditions of “O Holy Night” performed by vocal greats Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey! So listen to each one of these stellar recordings and let me know who sang it the best, please leave comments!
Celine Dion (From Special Times Holiday Album)

You are totally biased toward Mariah Carey. Why did you post a cracked up bobby brown whitney performance. Clearly she wasn’t the best vocalist after hmm 1998-1999(?) This performance was during or after this period. Boo BScott!

Well my dear it was on her ‘One Wish’ holiday album, so I posted it. If you know of a different better version please send it. I just wanted to post the three versions I had from my favorite divas! Merry Christmas!

Please stop comparing Whitney with these other mediocre singers. Whitney is a trail blazer in the music industry. She dominated the industry when few could. In fact, Mariah and Celine used Whitney for their inspiration to become singers. I love you B Scott and I am on your site everyday, but I really don’t get you with this one.

Dee, Mariahs rendition was from 2000, when she’d also lost a hell of alot of power from her voice. Whats your point?
And for someone else to call Mariah and Celine “mediocre singers”… well your point isn’t worth reading after that as it’s obviously overly biased and un thought through.
Back to the matter, Celines is absolutley stunning, she never fails to shock me with her incredible vocals. Beautiful.
Whitney is….Whitneys rendition is weak and strained. I was never sure why she put out a Christmas album at that point in her career to be honest.
Mariah is the winner here, for making the song human (this is where Celine loses the point for me) and just giving it her all. Bravo Mariah!

Mariah is the Voice and, most important, the soul. Though Celine is impresive she is always bordering the boring saccarine. And Whitney is really boring and not there at all, really mecanic. So, as always, the impresibous Miss Mariah Carey

Mariah looks the best, sounds the best, and is just amazing.
The song is so good, bitch made a video for it.
Celine’s is very good, tho.
Divaaaaaaahhh on December 26, 2007 at 1:25 am #
Whitney! Mariah’s is good too. So is Celine’s. They all sing so good!
Licia on December 26, 2007 at 10:01 am #
I hafta say Whitney. Not this performance, but I feel her songs…Not to say Ms Mimi ain’t killin em..But when Whitney sings…Chile, I got to say Have mercy on my soul….
But to pick which one out of these three…Mariah would have it.
bdiva on December 26, 2007 at 12:52 pm #
K… Whitney SINGS!! Like period. But i feel that (and a part of it was her fierce choir) Mariah was giving me a lot of runs that touched my spirit! Lol… so i loved those 2 the best.
j on December 26, 2007 at 1:44 pm #
Mariah, but that’s my biased opinion.
No really, Whitney’s version lacks continuity, the voice alone cannot pull together the song if the arrangement is whack. Celine’s version sounds like it’s going to break into “My Heart Will Go On” at any second, way over the top!
Mariah did it just right for ME.

Whitney is ‘The Voice’ and no one can ever undo what she has done. I think Celine wins this round. Mariah is so over rated. She is always trying so hard to be cute that she doesn’t give any soul to her performance. She got the audience clapping and shit like she is in a real church singing. It is all theatrics, which Celine or Whitney don’t need. Now can we compare them, when they were all at their peak? Whitney hands down.

Ok i’m gonna go with who made me cry first, because this is my favorite xmas song of all time, and its the one that gets the most emotion outta me.
Mariah - produced the most tears outta me, so she is my first pick. the octaves are insane.
Celine - got me choked up too. so she’s my second. she sung this BEAUTIFULLY! her vocals are SO strong.
Bottom line is, if you want the “soul” route, go with mariah. but if you want a clean peaceful sound, definitely go with Celine. They both REDRUM’d this song, and i didnt even watch Whitney, not interested. Her voice just aint the same to me anymore.

Mariah KILLED it…
I gotta say i got worried when she started going into the bridge, but she blew it out! I gotta give her props…
And as far as people saying you can’t compare Mariah to Whitney, for the record, Mariah has the largest octave range of any of these singers, and the strongest technique.. You can say what you want but ask any REAL singers or vocal trainers and they’ll tell you she can sing circles around Whitney.. Celine on the other hand is also a force to be reckoned with lol
