Ever since the news of Jamie-Lynn Spears’ pregnancy people have been bringing up the issue of her age, and the age of the father… do the words statutory rape ring any bells?
Well… although a spokeswoman for the local sheriff’s department in Jamie-Lynn’s hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana told Baton Rouge’s WAFB-TV that no complaint has been filed in the case and “no criminal investigation is currently underway, Casey Aldridge could face charges.
Casey could be charged with “felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile,” (amazingly hilarious charge to have on your sheet, eh love muffins?) which is defined as “sexual intercourse with consent between someone age 19 or older and someone between age 12 and 17.”
However, it’s not know exactly how old Casey was when he gained said “carnal knowledge” of Jamie-Lynn, so if he was under 19, then he may just be charged with a misdemeanor. Also it would depend on whether the two did the nasty in Louisiana or in California, since laws vary from state to state.
Boy deserves a medal for his ability to make the most dysfunctional American family even more dysfunctional, and for giving the national media a shocking front page story! Just kidding, love muffins… I’m still coming to terms with the whole thing myself!

Rape. What a term to use. That child was not raped. She was consenting. They are close in age. It’s not a 53-yo man with a 16 yo. The age of consent in this country is stupid. It’s 16 in most Western countries. Do you think it would benefit anyone to press charges against the BF? Would it make him stay or prevent teen pregnancy? Nope. Education. Access to birth control. These are the issues.

i agree with what deb said. lets not pretend like teens her age are not having sex. and they may have been using contraceptives but no method other than abstinence is 100% sure. at least she spoke up and is acting responsibily and keeping the child. charging her boyfriend who is less than 3 years her senior will not make her unpregnant nor will it stop future teen pregnancies.
