December 19, 2007 Cover Wars: “Hello It’s Me”

Morning Love Muffins, I haven’t done a “Cover Wars” piece in a while so I thought I’d give you another one. I was listening to some of the bonus tracks from Mary J. Blige’s new album and one of them was “Hello, It’s Me” which is one of my favorite songs. “Hello, It’s Me” was originally recorded in the 70s by the rocker Todd Rundgren but since then has had a soul make-over by some great artists. So listen to the following versions and tell me which one you prefer.
P.S. I always like to play homage to the orginal so here is Todd Rundgren singing one of his classics. (That makeup and hair was FIERCE!)

wow…three great GREAT covers! If I had to rank it’d be:
1. Amel
2. John
3. Mary
Hmmmm looks like the same order they were posted in…you agree love muffin’??? Though I heard Amel before I knew it was the Isley Brothers version (yikes!) so I already determined her’s was the best

I’d say that John’s version was the best, because he was just right. Amel’s was too soft and shy, while Mary’s was too soulful and didn’t sound like the original at all. John’s version had originality plus it still stayed true to the actual song.

I say Amel’s. Her voice is just so smoothed out. If I still smoked, I’d light an L, dim the lights and just chill-lax to this…
Next it would be Mary’s and then John.
