September 10, 2007 Top 5 Reasons Why This Was The Worst VMAs Ever
As has been the recent tradition, the VMAs sucked this year. But this year they reached an all-time low and here’s why.
5. Scattered Performances:
Was it just me or did it feel like there was too much s#!t going on at once. To have 5 different venues and cutting in and out of performances was a bit much for me. Half the time they would cut to a performance and the person would be in the middle of their song. It was just too much. I like stuff simple. Whatever happened to the award show with one stage that everyone used together? Keep it simple stupid!
4. No Host
Where’s Chris Rock when you need him? (Don’t say he’s making a movie because his films are downright horrible.) One of the only things he does well is host the VMAs. I just want someone to hold the show together. They could’ve even brought back the Wayans Brothers who were horrible in their own right, just let me see something cohesive.
3. The Finale
No offense to Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, or Timbaland. Even though they have collectively ruled radio for the past 12 months it still was not enough to close the show! It was a bit lackluster for my taste. The VMAs should go out with a bang but instead they went out with a flicker.
2. No Surpises
Remember when the VMAs were filled with random surprises. At any moment Madonna or Michael Jackson would randomly show up. Yeah… those were the days. When I watch the VMAs, I want to experience something that I wouldn’t see on any other show. The could’ve wheeled out Whitney Houston smoking on a crack rock or Celine Dion flying through the air in one of her Cirque du Soleil contraptions (For God sakes, they were in Vegas). Give me something MTV, DAMN!
1. Britney Spears
Do I even need to say it? She was the epitome of the entire show… all hype and nothing to back it up.

Agreed, the best performance in there was Chris Brown. The end was boring, and jumping around from room to room was hella confusing.

Hey Toya!! Hope I’m not being rude by shouting you out on another blog but I read your blog too girl!
Anyway, B Scott, I agree with you on every point (and I’m definitely waiting for the video blog entry from you on Britney’s performance.)To me, it didn’t seem like this year’s VMA’s gave a shit about the home viewer. I mean, oh yeah it looked like it was HELLA fun if you were actually THERE and had access to those suite parties. But, for the home viewer it just looked like were going from room to room watching celebs get trashed with their groupies. And I feel sorry for the people who were stuck in the MAIN auditorium, because that looked like the most boring place to be. MTV forgot that the VMAs is an award show, and yes while the fans like seeing their celebs trashed and looking stupid on national TV that shouldn’t be the POINT of the show! Just an extra. You KNOW whoever thought this up is looking for a new job tomorrow.
I liked Chris Brown, but he really needs to switch it up. You love Michael Jackson, ok we get it. NEXT. And Chris Brown is unique for being one of the few newer artists when some actual singing ability, so he should have at LEAST sung SOME of it live. His performance was just dancing, and when have we seen him NOT do that?
I HAVE to give it to my girl A. Keys. Yeah, her voice was a little horse, but my girl most DEFINITELY had the flyest *live* performance of the night.

Remember when the VMA’s were actually the “VIDEO Music Awards”!?!?! Remember when people won for stuff like “Best Art Direction in a Video,” “Best Choreography” “Best Director”??!?! REMEMBER!!!?!?! They can’t do that anymore cuz they don’t play video’s on the damn station anymore. F*$% MTV! I WANT MY MTV BACK!!!

B. Scott, I know you’re probably sick of thinkin about Britney right now, but I just thought I’d shoot you a link to post I wrote not to long ago. It’s just my little fledgling blog, but I’d like to think that there’s hope for Britney’s comeback yet.
