August 1, 2007 New Video: Will.i.am!
To be honest, I expected a lot more from Will.i.am and maybe that was my mistake in the first place. I know the man is a producing genius (John Legend’s “Ordinary People” – need I say more), but no matter how you cut it, Will.i.am’s solo debut “I Got It From My Mama” is absolutely horrible. The song is repetitive and stupid and the video embodies every hip-hop cliche I have ever seen. It is for those reason’s alone that this song will probably be a hit!
I know you guys probably don’t remember this but back in the day, the Black-Eyed Peas (minus Fergie) had a song called “Weekend” that my friends and I used to listen to all the time while eating at “The Grill” in high school! (Ahh those were the days). This was when BEP offered something original but then again they didn’t sell any records! Enjoy love muffins!

I am disappointed as well. I also believe along the way he has fallen into the trap of formulated factory-esque music. I do miss there earlier more organic work. No offense to Fergie she does her thing but it is what it is.

It does seem like he fell in that “trap” of the hip hop videos nowadays….BEP were so much more of a force in their earlier work. I remember this song from the grill—eating or working there with Ms. Lela. Memories……..
