B. Scott Revisits: Waiting To Exhale
+ July 27, 2007
As the story goes, when Whitney Houston was offered one of the lead roles in Waiting to Exhale, she was still reeling from the huge success of her movie debut in The Bodyguard and its award-winning soundtrack. With her next role, Whitney didn’t want the pressure of holding double duties as actor/singer and wanted to keep the focus primarily on her acting. Clive Davis, in an effort to keep his star diva from putting her singing on hold, recruited Whitney’s long-time friend and collaborator, Babyface, to help convince her to lend her voice to the movie soundtrack. After several approaches, Whitney finally agreed to do three songs for the Waiting To Exhale soundtrack under one condition: that the rest of the tracks all be sung only by women to reflect the mood and subject-matter of the movie. Babyface and Clive Davis obliged and the rest is history.
.
Whitney’s great idea, Babyface’s songwriting/production, and the great collection of artists turned out to be pure magic. The album debuted at #1 in November of 1995 and remained at the top of the charts for five weeks and sold over six million copies. It spawned a plethora of major hits on the Billboard Hot 100 including the #1 singles Whitney Houston’s “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” and Toni Braxton’s “Let It Flow”, the #2 hits Brandy’s “Sittin’ Up In My Room” and Mary J. Blige’s “Not Gon’ Cry”. This soundtrack brought together some of the greatest voices in R&B old and new. It also seemed to reflect a wide array of emotions from blissful love to bitter heartbreak. And to think that the person to capture the essence of all of these female R&B singers was a man! Enjoy one of favorites, love muffins!

SYTYCD Recap!
+ July 26, 2007
We were thrown for a loop last night when the dancers randomly chose their partners for this week’s dance, and not to mention the Wade Robson piece we had to watch ten times! Hopefully this format won’t be too taxing in the weeks to come. Here’s the rundown!
Dominic and Jamie were a big no no all around. This dance was just not for him, and from the costumes, we felt like they should be on a mountain top yodeling instead of doing a romantic waltz. Plus, the music was too powerful for what should’ve been a regal routine. The judges tore Dominic to pieces, which was hard to watch for his sake, so we hope this isn’t a sign for what could happen tomorrow night!
Kameron is no Dominic, and the chemistry between him and Sabra last night was not what we’re used to. The judges were kind of right in their criticism of his technique, but their praise of Sabra was so on the mark. She’s like a breath of fresh air. When you say the words natural talent, you’re talking about Sabra. We wouldn’t be surprised if she’s one of the last two girls standing!
Lacey and Danny were sex personified. Their routine gave us goosebumps! Lacey turns up her inner sexpot no matter what she does on stage, and it really worked for last night’s samba. Plus, that song (”Hip hip chin chin”) was so perfect. The judges didn’t seem overly impressed with Danny’s performance, but we thought they made a nice on-stage couple!
Lauren and Pasha were so bad. The hip hop thing just doesn’t work for many of the dancers, which is perfectly fine when you consider that they’re mostly amazing at everything else! Watching Pasha was just comical. Please. All SYTYCD choreographers: No more hip hop for Pasha!
Sara and Neil gave us a little disco. Their routine was just plain fun! Neil’s a great dancer, but Sara’s so magnetic. She draws your attention in and manages to hold it the entire time. There’s something to be said for a breaker who can move like that!
Of all the solos last night, Sabra and Lauren really summed up all the emotion and beauty in the piece. Check them out here:
And just because we loved, loved, loved this routine, here’s the Adam Shankman choreographed piece for “You Can’t Stop The Beat”. No, this was not on last night’s episode, but something about this dance literally had us rejoicing! Check it out again if you missed it:
OMG! Woman Being Chased By Lilo 911 Tape!
+ July 26, 2007
Listen to Tarin Graham’s (Lindsay’s former assistant) mother, frantic call to the police while she was being chased by Lindsay’s white GMC Denali HERE!
WTF? Read what the New York Post had to say below:
Lohan’s former assistant, Tarin Graham, “is a problem individual and Lindsay was trying to help her out,” the actress’ uncle, Chris Sullivan, told The Post. Graham’s “mother got involved and became hysterical.” “She [Lindsay] may well have not been driving the car. This girl and her mother are letting Lindsay take the fall, but hopefully the truth will come out! That would get rid of most of the charges.” Officers responding to a 911 call from Graham’s mom Tuesday found Lohan and the woman in a “heated” argument in the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium parking lot and then noticed the actress was reeking of booze. Lohan then flunked field sobriety tests and cops measured her blood alcohol level to be more than 0.12, well above California’s 0.08 threshold for drunken driving. Lohan had a rap for driving under the influence hanging over her from a fender-bender in late May. She was arrested and booked by Santa Monica cops Tuesday for alleged DUI, driving with a suspended license, possession of cocaine and transport of narcotics.
Trina Debuts Her “Rihanna Bob”
+ July 26, 2007

Miami rapper, Trina, debuted her new haircut at a recent photo-shoot, and let’s just say her new haircut was quite reminiscent of Rihanna’s new look. She’s sporting the Rihanna-look even down to the little black dress. All she needs is an um-brella-ella-ella-a-a! I’m not by any means saying that Rihanna invented “the bob”, but we’d all be kidding ourselves if we didn’t note the similarities.

Anyone remember that movie Single White Female about the chick who stalks her neighbor by cutting her hair to look exactly like her and stealing her life? I think we have a case of Single Black Female…coming to a theater near you!
P.S. Just in case you were wondering, that’s Trina on the left and Rihanna to the right. Uncanny I know!

MTV’s The Real World: Sydney!
+ July 26, 2007
MTV’s Real World is back but I cannot say it’s better than ever. This Sydney cast looks a hot mess ordered on a fiery skillet with a splash of mediocrity on the side. The trailer is oh so dramatical & it just looks boring. With two cast members named Dunbar & Cohutta, I’m afraid of what is to come!
Watch the premiere on Wednesday August 8th at 10 pm.
Click here for more on this season’s foolishness, if you care!
