The star from Hairspray, Nikki Blonsky, blew the crowd away with her performance of “Good Morning Baltimore” at this past weekend’s Pride celebration in San Francisco. Looks like she made a few friends when it was all over.

Adam Shankman, the film’s director and choreographer, picked her out of the thousands of people who auditioned for the coveted role and this ex-Coldstone Creamery scooper won the title. She realizes that two of her predecessors have gone down in history for this portrayal of Tracy Turnblad—Rikki Lake and Marissa Jaret Winokur—and she knows where she stands in comparison to them. She has said, “I’m not going to try to fill anybody’s shoes – I’m going to try to create a new pair of shoes!” We like the sound of that.
